Hi All,
I've seen posts on here about different types of tummy tucks...extended etc.  Can anyone explain the different types and what may be the preferred standard?
Thanks,
Cher

This link might help you with the descriptions:

As far as a "preferred standard," there may be a one your ps does more than others, however, which one your ps recommends depends on what your needs are.  If you go in insisting on an extended tt, you might be surprised to find out that your ps tells you that you really just need a traditional tt.  At that point, your ps should be able to explain why your body needs one but not the other.

In my siggy you can see what I had done and when.  With my circumferential lift, my recovery went very smooth.  I had very minimal swelling, maybe just a little puffiness but that's it.  I had friends that went through the same thing and they told me how horrible the pain was.  That was not the case for me.  I was surprised at how I was able to move afterward.  It took me about a week or so to stand completely upright.

I managed my pain with percocet and then tylenol, I'm not sure I needed the percocet as often as I took it (every 4 hours at first, then I extended the time between doses) but I think that helped keep the pain minimal - relatively speaking of course.  My arms and underarms I had done at the same time and those were even easier in terms of recovery.

Probably the most annoying part was the drains, I had 4 in the mons area.  Once those were out (about a week and half out) it was even better.  I still get a little puffy, but nothing drastic.  My thighs on the otherhand are a different swelling story.

I can't remember what circumferential cost individually, but everything total was about 27K.

I assumed I would need an extended TT because of the wls.  the doctor explained extended is when they cut farther around your sides, closer to where your body meets the table to help acheive a better silhouette.  When he examined me he told me I did not need an ETT because my shape is already what it should be on the sides and that all my extra skin is in the front.

A fleur de lis or inverted T or anchor cut is when they do a typical TT plus slice you up your abdomen (vertical cut) - hence the names.  for some people they need that to really pull in the skin.  I thought I might need that too but my surgeon believes that most do not really need that, and that a skilled surgeon should be able to give you a nice shape with just one horizontal incision. My doc is going to cut me around 4 inches ABOVE my belly button and pull all that  down.

I had the fleur-de-lis, aka "anchor" tummy tuck.  I needed it because I needed a LOT of skin removed post RNY.  A more common type of incision with "tummy tuck" is the panniculectomy, which is just the one incision across your lower belly (kind of like a C-section incision, just wider) to remove the excess skin there.

My plastic surgeon gave me the option but told me that I would probably be happier with the FDL.  I'm THRILLED with my results!  The recovery was a little more painful/longer, but results are so worth it!

Thank you all for the info...it helps.  I'm actually planning for a LBL and the tummy tuck will be a part of it.  I've been trying to match up what my surgeon described with the terminology that I read on here.  I also want to be informed and able to ask good questions when I go talk to him again.

I had a BL and brachioplasty in May so the LBL questions I asked him were just to start thinking about it and wasn't ready to discuss in depth yet.
