I am so excited!! I booked my TT for January 4th!! (That is when I am on break for school and do not go bac****il the 24, I did not want to miss classes!!)

I want to spend the next few months preparing my body - I am not much of an exerciser so yesterday I started sit up and will do some arm toning too... I am so excited I cannot stand it!

I live in RI and have TDI through the state... has anyone had experience collecting TDI while out for a cosmetic procedure?  I am guessing it should not matter because it is my money I will be collecting but I wanted to ask!!

Congrats on getting your surgery date. I don't know the answer to your question, but wanted to add that it is good you are getting your exercise before surgery. Also, add as much cardio as you can to your routine. It really makes recovery so much better. Having strong thighs and legs also makes getting up and down after your surgery much easier.

Yep, keep up on the exercise. Make sure you are working your legs ie. squats and lunges. You'll use your legs a lot since you won't be bending down but you can squat to get things that are lower.

Not sure what TDI is, is it like short-term disability pay? If so check w/ them. Make sure you tell them it's for reconstructive surgery, not cosmetic surgery. Mine was covered for short-term disability due to the fact that my Dr. said it was a medically necessary reconstructive surgery after major weight loss.

Congrats on scheduling your surgery. It will be here before you know it and you'll be so happy.

Cardio, core and legs. Cardio will help breathing after you're off of anesthesia, a strong core will help support all the work, and legs will help you getting up and down.

TDI - Temporary disability insurance?  If so, I was on STD (short term disability) so probably the same thing, just different letters.

I did two multi procedure surgeries close together.  Part of the first one included a hernia repair - I was STD for the entire 8 weeks I was out.  However, I did not qualify for FMLA for the second surgery - only for the first one because of the hernia repair.   FMLA and short term run concurrent, so don't be surprised if you qualify for one but not for the other.

When I started the paperwork process, there was a point where they told me I would NOT qualify for short term, even though it's a benefit I pay 100%.  They required specific documentation from my ps.

Yes that is what TDI is... but it is not thorugh work, it is throught the state - I have LTD through work.  RI requires it so if you work in RI you get TDI.

FMLA just ensures I will not lose my job - which I dont care about either way because I know they will not fire me!!   And if they do I get to collect unemployment while I finish going to school - sounds good to me LOL!!!

I did check the websie and it did not mention anything about the type of surgery so I think it will be ok!!

FMLA is more than just not losing your job.  It's holding your current position open for a period of time and after that period of time if your position is not available, they'll put you in a position of equal value.  As well as providing you with your health benefits.

Did you find out if while you're out if you have to pay the benefits on your own?  I'm in OH so it may be different, but my company invoices me the amount of my benefits while I'm out on leave.  When I had my RNY when I worked for a different employer in PA, my benefits were still paid by my STD pacakge.

Well I have had two children while at my company... the first time I was not here long enough to qualify for FMLA so I took an extended leave of absence.  (0I actually got a promotion when I got back) The second time I filed FMLA.  Both times they took out double benefit paymetns when I returned - so if I was out for 8 weeks, when I got back the first 8 weeks the took out double payments so I could repay what they paid into my benefits.  They are not covered under TDI.  My employer gave me a choice to pay it in full, pay it weekly while out,  or have it extended throughout my paychecks - they are good like that.

I know what FMLA does fully, just at my company it really is not something of concern.  I am very fortunate to be in the company I am in right now!!

I actually no longer have benefits through my company - I get them through my husband so I do not even have to worry about that right now!!  Thabnks for thinking of that though - it might even be helpful to someone else in my position!
