inner thigh lift - incision split
Hi
has anyone had their thighs split and had to have wound care for it. what did your DR. do for it my wound dehissed which means it opened up and u can see my leg guts it makes me sick to look. i m getting so depressed.
I had inner thigh lift April 2009 and I had some loose skin up at the top when it was first done the skin was so tight but it never split then over time the top got floppy so my PS did a revision 2 weeks ago and then this happened. i usually have no problem with plastics, i bounce back so fast when i had my last thigh lift after 3 weeeks i was able to do a 5k walk/run. now i m not suppossed to get up off the sofa I am so depressed i cant stand it and i know someday iwill still say this is all worth it.
i was done on Monday 8/16 came home fine, by thursday i was able to drive didnt do much . I think the problem was i had no drains i asked my PS why no drains and he said it was only a revision & i didnt need them cause he didint do to much he said i didnt even need to wear the compression garments, but i wore them . on Saturday night i didnt wear it to bed when i woke on Sunday thighs were swollen so i put the garment back on then later on the day they started leaking fluid and I noticced the split about 1/2 inch went to seee PS on Monday(my PS is on Vacation, saw his partner) and he told me to dress it and take it easy , i lais on the sofa till Thursaday when i noticed it split even more went back they put sutures on each side so it wouldnt split like a zipper and he told me to come back on Monday when my PS will be back.
i dont know what they can do cause i wanted it sewed back up the first time but he said they couldnt cause i could get an infection, if they do sew it up i think i have to go back in the OR for them to clean out my wound and re stitch
thanks for listening

I haven't had that happen. I did have to have part of my incision opened because of a seroma that had to be drained and packed.
I can see where the ps would say he wouldn't restitch it - did he have you pack it at all? When you have an open incision you want it to close from the inside out, rather from the outside in. That's where you run the risk of infection. Those types of infections are very hard to get rid of - I knew someone who had open RNY and had the incision start healing from the outside in, get infected and it took months for the infection to go away.
It's important to remember that whatever the ps tells you to do as part of the follow up protocol - to do exactly as they want you to. You can ask if it's okay to do things they don't require, but always clear it with them.
At 3 weeks out from my thighs, I was able to walk a little, but my ps did not clear me for any kind of working out until about 4 weeks and that was easing into it. Definitely nothing aggressive (I asked about trapeze school and he said nothing like that), just light walking etc.
The human body is an amazing, unpredictable machine.

no this is different the wound dehissed, there is no tunnell to put the packing into. i am gong to the PS tomorrow and my sister is coming with me she is an RN who specializes in wound care.
he told me i could drive cause i only had a revision,. **** happens every wound is different i had this surgery before and had no problems at all . usually i m back to normal by this time post-op at least there is no pain just disgusting looking and i m on antibiotics.
i just cant stand lying around.

It happened to me and my PS made it heal from the inside out so now I have a horrible scar. I need a scar revision. There are places the scar is over an inch wide. Its flat but wide. I was scared to death and the PS just shrugged it off. Needless to say he won't be working on me again. I had internal stitches popping out. It took five months for everything to completely heal . I hope it goes better for you.

Haven't had my plastics yet (not till Sept 23rd) but just wanted to give you some sympathy. I've followed your other progress, so this must be disappointing to not snap back so quickly for what should have been minor.
It sounds worse for the psyche than the actual wound, but I know it doesn't make it easier to look at. I'll be thinking healing thoughts for you.

I know purpletb had a heck of a time with her wounds not wanting to close. Hers were right at her groin crease too. They ended up having to stitch it close and it eventually got better. Thighs can be a tough area to heal because of the tension in that area plus when we sit our thighs pull. Hang in there, I'm sure it will heal soon!
