Getting back to a normal sleep pattern?

I am 3 weeks post LBL/BL and 1 week post op for complications.  And I am having the worst time with sleeping at night.  I guess I still am not getting any activity in the day time, but I have quit taking pain meds and naps.  And I am still having trouble sleeping at night.  Even Benedryl isnt helping.  Anyone else go through this in recovery?  Any tips?

Sorry to be discouraging, but I had a hard time sleeping normally for quite a while. Even now at almost 5 months post op I cannot sleep comfortably in my preferred position, which is on my stomach.

It was at least 6 weeks before I got what I would call a decent night's sleep; but turning over would still wake me up!

Naps became my best friend.....

Same with me I wasn't comfortable for almost 2 months out.  I'm almost 2 months out from this round I still find it takes me a minute to get comfortable and a minute to actually drift off

I tend to be pretty comfy I think.  Well not like floating on a cloud, but I dont super mind my bed.  It feels good at the end of the day.  I do take a minute and have to wake up to reposition, maybe thats what is getting me up.  But otherwise I just get wakeful at night.  I am going to try a sleep aide and see if it helps, with docs blessing.

So weird.  I was super tired last night, stayed up extra late.  I didnt try the sleeping meds cause today was an important day and I didnt want to over sleep.  I still couldnt sleep.  Tonight I will go to bed really early and try the med!

I don't know if it's coming off the drugs or just the after effects of surgery BUT I literally could only sleep for 3 hours at a time for the first 1 1/12 months...drove me NUTS cause I love my sleep.

Even after a sleeping pill I only slept 5 hours!  Ugh!  I guess it would be ok, I just want my body to get as much sleep as possiable because I know there is so much healing while we sleep.

Yes, Missy, I do believe that once you are sleeping better the healing will just come right along.  I'm glad to see you are feeling  better.

Five hours is a pretty good stretch of sleep this early out.  If that is all you can get with a sleep aid, an afternoon nap and then the night time sleep aid may be in order.  And my MIL always says to remember that at least while in bed you aer getting rest.  Instead of sleeping pills, I took a pain pill at night.  Good luck, Loris
