Plastics on arms

I'm nervous about even starting to look into plastics .... and much more so on my arms.  I was one of those fun yoyo dieters presurgery and now that the weights coming off I have a ton of excess skin ... and good god at the stretch marks on my arms.  I do believe that its going to come down to surgery as a must on those, BUT I've only ever read horror stories on big ugly scars that no one can fix when it comes to the arms ... ;-; I'm 21 years old ..... I want to be able to show them off ........ is there always that hideous big scar or am I flipping out for nothing? ._.

I believe everyone scars differently so it's hard to say what your outcome will be. My scars are very minimal. I have very light thin scars and have no problem wearing sleeveless or shortsleeve shirts.

My PS did say that some people decide to keep the nasty arms because no matter what, you'll have a scar post-op and some feel that will be just as bad.

For me?  My arms look pretty hideous.  Crepe paper-ish and full of stretch marks. But I still wear short sleeves.  SO I figure that I'll still wear short sleeves with the scar.  AND tops will fill me in the arms AND the boobs at the same time!!  lol

My arms are just the most god awful things right now.  There are so many stretch marks and when the rest of me fits comfortably into a medium shirt .. they really want to keep me in larger sizes.  I'm a good year out from even being able to consider surgery yet .... but I know they are one area that is desperately going to need it already.  I'm just praying that the scar isn't quite as eww as the one I'm imagining

I hear you.  I'm in a small/xs top - so the arms are all super small.  Unless its really stretching I can't wear it.  And when I wear a short sleeve shirt it kinda "pouches" out like an arm muffin top.  Sigh.

The way my PS described it was like Renee said below.  A trade off - scars or crepe paper hangy bat wings.  I'll take the scar.  If you get the proper placement (be SURE To ask about this at your consult), it will sit in such a way that it only shows when you wave your arm over your head (like calling "TAXI"!!).

someone else posted on here the other day about creams, and compression garments, and taping over your scars for months and month.  Sounds like a GIANT pain in the butt - but I think I'll be looking into that as well.  ;0)

I took the trade off of the skin for the scars. Mine have faded nicely and no one knows they are there unless I walk around with my arms over my head. I don't do that often! LOL I now wear sleeveless tops and tank tops and never give it a second thought. There's a few pictures on my profile if you want to look.

Your plastics look like they are healing up GORGEOUSLY .. I don't know .. someone told me that as many as 1/2 of the patients who have arm plastics get these huge very noticeable scars post surgery.  I totally wouldn't mind having little scars at all :)  The bigger ones are what make me worry and thats totally vain but ........

Who told you this about the scars???

YES you will have scars but a big thing in scar placement as well.  My doctor "hides" them along the inseem of my arm as opposed to the back of my arm so like the other ladies as long as I don't go around with my arms over my head you won't see them.

I will take my scars over my batwings anyday!

I am very happy with the results of my upper arm lift and wear tank tops all the time. The way he did my arms the scars are where you can barely see them unless I have my arms up over my head..
