Hello Again, more Questions
So, yesterday I scheduled my H & P with my PCP. I have my pre-surgery consult with plastics dude on Sept 1st (fleur-de-lei w/ lbl, butt flaps and lipo of saddlebags) for my Sept 20th surgery. I'll be going in for my pre-surgery exam with my pcp on Sept 9th.
I am on the low side of normal for iron and ferrin. Therefore, starting today, upping my intakes. Can we say hello chicken livers? I've grown to like them alright. Praise God my choles. levels are AOK!
So, any other pre-surgery advice? I'm exercising, building leg and core muscles.
Oh, and one thing that I don't seem to find here---do we lose our hair after surgery. I remember back to the VSG--I lost tons.
Excited and scared for this leg of my journey.

yahoo on the debt free! I'm a big dave ramsey fan. My surgery is scheduled for Oct 28th and I am having a lower body lift or 360 as some call it. After that if I feel up for it 3 months later I will do breasts and arms. I don't want an implant just a lift. I am over 2 years out and have about 10 more lbs to try and lose before Oct 28th. I have been told my skin could weigh 12 lbs.
190 lbs lost
VSG 07/2008
lower body lift 10/2010
upper body lift 11/2011

Andrea U http://www.obesityhelp.com/member/aullberg/ who mainly posts on the main forum SWEARS by it as the ONLY thing that got her iron and ferrin levels UP after suffering for awhile with her RnY. Drop her a line she's a WEALTH of info on vitamins!!

Good move on being proactive with the iron. I'm anemic since well before my RNY and I know that with every surgery I've had to always make sure my physicians know this from the very beginning so that they request the proper tests and to monitor my levels.
I'll see your chicken livers and raise you blood sausage. Yeah, that's how I helped increase my iron prior to my first round of plastics. In between my surgeries, my ps ordered iron infusions for me. I'm pretty sure I'd prefer the blood sausage over the iron infusions - although it's a really close call. :)
As for the hair loss, I didn't notice hair loss after my plastics like I had after my RNY. Although anesthesia plays a part in the hair loss, so does diet. There was something unusual on my leak test (not a true leak) that caused my surgeon to be conservative and said "nothing by mouth" for 10 days, so it took me longer to start building up my protein.
I didn't have any dietary restrictions after plastics so that could have been the key factor as to why I didn't have/notice the hair loss.

You know, I grew up eating blood sausage. Then I found out how it was made. I could not eat it after that until now. Plastics meant that much to me!
From my research about iron rich food - you're right on with going with animal iron. Heme iron is the best absorbed into the body. Beef or calf liver would probably be higher in iron than chicken liver, as red meat is higher in iron. Bone marrow is also a good source of iron. I've never been brave enough to eat it though.

Bone marrow isn't that hard to do, as it disolves. Just when you make soup add a beef bone to it. After it has simmered a while, scoop out the marrow and stir into soup. Truth be told, so many soups at high end restaurants, this is a trick to their "rich" taste. Beef marrow is an ingredient in Italian meatball wedding soup.
