swelling?

I am in the hospital waiting for the doc to come in.  I have been out of my compression for 2 days cause of my bleeding and I am so swollen.  Much larger then my pre-op size...or at least it looks like it to me.  I look down right awful!  Some of the swollen areas are red.  Anyone swell like this?  Doc is in surgery, and I am getting anxious waiting to ask him.  It could be the tons of IV fluids I have been on.

I didn't have much swelling after my first surgery, the second one I did.  With my hysterectomy I also had a lot of swelling right out of surgery (up 15 lbs).  I was in the hospital 2 days and by the time I was discharged, I was down 10-12 of the 15 lbs.  A week later, I was 8 lbs below the weight I was when I went in the hospital.  Although it's a different surgery, it goes to show that there is no predictable outcome.

I strongly recommend for your own health, to wait and talk to your doctor.  It would be irresponsible for anyone to assess you and subsequently outline a plan for you without the subjective and objective part of the exam.

In other health forums in which I participate where physicians monitor the discussions, none of them will dx you - they will give you general information related to the case but always refer you to your attending.  To do otherwise is risky.

If you notice with the physicians that post here, they do the same - provide info but direct you to your attending.

Keep in mind that everyone is different and I am only telling you what happened to me.

I had an extended tummy tuck in March that was successful except for a pocket of fat above my bellybutton... the rest was perfect!

In June, I went in for in-office lipo to take care of that problem area. I got a serious infection about 10 days after my procedure. It started with a golf ball size hard thing that grew to be ablout three times that overnight. The PS drained it and packed it and I was sent home with detailed instructions. I wasn't able to get back into compression because the pain was so terrible. It was probably two weeks later before I could.. but I was so swollen I had to go to a bigger size. To be perfectly honest... the area hasn't changed after the infection. It's like the lipo was never done.... very disappointing. I'm sure the PS would do a revision, but I'm not sure that I want to push my luck. I still have a hard spot that has not disapated... doc says it will be weeks if not months before it goes away.

I hope your infection heals quickly. Be patient... it does take some time. ~Marci

 Missy-
I put a shout-out to you on VSG board and the wonderful Ms. Shell let me know  you were here and having some troubles.
I'm terribly sorry to hear about your complications. Not NOT fun. But it sounds like you are now, finally, on the road to recovery and I am sure soon you will be only happy with your results.

In the meantime, hang in there and know I'm keeping you and your recovery in my thoughts and heart! Please update as you can.
