5 days out
Hi Missy,
Sorry to hear you're hurting and stressed out. I did not have lipo or a LBL, just arm lift and bl/br. I added benefiber to my morning protein shake and also took a stool softener at night to help with the constipation. The second week I started to feel better and the pain lessened considerably.
Hope you feel better soon!

It's hard to say when you will start feeling better - but you will. For me the LBL was easier than I expected and the thighs were worse; whereas others here have had the opposite experience.
As for not having a BM yet, call your doctor tomorrow to see what they recommend - chances are it'll be a stool softener, if you're already taking those, then it might be adding metamucil (which I refer to as senior tang) - but your doctor is the best one to advise you.
Good luck!

we have done everything so far....and have a hubby doc too. I am really worried about where this is going...it isnt going anywhere well.
Sometims I feel ok. When the kids are out I feel better...less stressed. I just heard this didnt hurt, and for me that has been major BS. But I also was severely miscared for at the hospital and am still trying to get my feet under myself from taht. I have a huge rash on one leg I am having to stay on benedryl (which is making me super tired). I think the hospital used latex despite the no latex band on my wrist. Maybe when I get my drains out I will start to feel human. Oh and poop...pooping would be nice

Give it a few more days and you will be feeling better!! I know how you feel I had the same problem I tried everything I could get my hands on for constipation. Prune juice, laxatives, softeners, teas, I finally ignored my doctor and used the suppositories. They worked like a charm. Everything I was taking was working on the wrong end.... I needed something to clear out from the other end up so to speak. I dont advise going against your doc of course. But I was desperate and always have issues anyway. Make sure to rest and get your fluids in but still walk like your dr says. Everyone has different pain tolerance maybe they can switch your meds to something that works for you. It really does get better!!!
HW 271/SW 255 RNY Jan.21 08 RNY Revision July 25th 2013
Plastics done 4/21/10 (Dr. Sauceda)
Extended TT, Full Arm lift, BL/BA, Long Thigh lift
I didn't have my first BM until after day 5.
People really are individual when it comes to this. From when I had my RNY back in '01 a friend who had already had their plastics told me how unbearable the pain was, how he couldn't walk up right for two weeks, etc. I heard a lot of that, but for me, it was completely different. I heard that the thighs were really easy, for me that's where I had issues.
As far as the latex in the hospital - there's really no way to know other than if they did, would the rash/reaction be everywhere they touched?
With the benedryl - let it help you sleep. Recovery for me really took off when I had long periods of restful sleep. Pain meds didn't do that for me, they gave me cat naps but nothing really restful. I had a reaction to paper tape and itching from healing on top of that and my ps told me to do the benedryl - and that's when I really started sleeping restfully.
It takes time and it's a huge process. You will get through it.

I am four weeks out today from my LBL. I am beginning to feel more like myself. I get better everyday. I got my drains out at one week and that made a huge difference. By week three I was doing normal housework and grocery shopping. I still do not pick up anything heavy and won't for a long time. The lipo on my outer thighs has been the worst part of it for me, unless you count sneezes or coughs. My legs are still sore and hurt a little bit when I lay on them.
I hate the compression especially around my ribs. I am short and the thing is always wanting to roll off my ribs. I am ready to switch to a smaller one that stops at my waist. I am going to ask on my next visit.
Poop hasn't been much of a problem, I eat yogurt with cultures and it helps. I know after my first plastics I felt a little down and was told a lot of people get emotional. Try to remember stress will make you feel worse. Try to stay calm and get your rest.

I am nine weeks out tomorrow (LBL, BL, and thigh lipo) and I can remember being in your situation like yesterday. I had many "why did I do this?" tears, but it WILL get better. I didn't have a BM for 6 days, and after talking to Janet, I took a suppository... Everything got better after that! Don't forget your two hours of compression garment "rest" each day. It helps!
When the drains are removed you will begin to feel like a human again, although I didn't walk perfectly straight for about 4 weeks after surgery. Just keep remembering the end prize! Even with the tummy swelling I still have now, Dr. Lo took 10 inches off of my abdomen alone!
Also the Houston Hospital of Specialized Surgery (that's where I got mine done, and I'm assuming you did too) sent me a anonymous survey. BE HONEST! I was... Hope you start feeling better soon. If you need to talk, message me!
