EXTRA SKIN AFTER TT

Hi there,

I had my 1st tummy tuck done in January 2009, (muscles tightened also), followed by a revision in November 2009 to get rid of extra skin that was due to elasticity. I am now 9 months post revision, and have to admit it looks great, but my skin is starting to relax a little again around the middle, everyone says (including my hubby) they don't notice it but I do, maybe I'm a perfectionist who knows? I went for a follow up yesterday and the dr said he can't do anymore otherwise my hairline will end up around my neck!! LOL (he didn't quite use that wording), so I guess I have to live with this.

Is there anyone else out there this has happened to and is it wishful thinking that I want to look like Madonna at age 51??

Would love some feedback and validation please.

Thanks

Unfortunately that can happen. Our skin just doesn't have the elasticity as those who were never obese. I had a revision to tighten up some loose skin in my anchor cut with my round 2 and I think it could still be tighter. I swear my skin will stretch forever. It's only noticeable when I sit down really. I think a lot depends on your age, how long you were obese, where you carried your fat and your skin makeup. My skin will never be perfect and I may not have the skin of a 20 something year old but I look a lot better than I could have ever imagined.

Thanks so much for putting my mind at rest. When did you have your tummy tuck?

Muffin, thanks for your wonderful insight and knowledge.  I understand this blog totally, but I guess due to my age and not expecting to have a 25 year old body again in this lifetime (and to do so would mean I'd look like the bride of Frankenstein with all the suture lines), I just accepted the looseness in my tummy.  I found out  at 56 years old, that purchasing Spanx is a LOT cheaper, and I get the same effect!  LOL.  Trust me though, I don't knock anyone who has the patience, time, and finances to do it.  Perhaps I might see things different if I had all that, but for now, I'm thankful for what I do have.  I was blessed to be able to have the panni done, brachioplasty with revisions (4 weeks out as I type), and glory be to God a breast lift.  With the exception of a very stubborn spot on my arm, I am doing well at 4 weeks post-op!  As you stated, I've learned to understand that the swelling takes many months to fully go away - and until it does, the final results are not realized by far.  Patience is the key. :)

Take care my friend and thanks again.  BTW, this is my home computer log in name. I'm also "newlifeagain". :)  Had to have 2 accounts due to problems logging in.  Oh well...

Always,

Rose

I have had the same issues,  my PS said that this happens because of the poor elasticity in WLS pts skin. I am having a revision to my thighs tomorrow only because he is doing it with my carpal tunnel surgery. when my thighs were done they were so tigh they split then after 9 months i saw the saggy skin on top of my thigh about 3 inches long my thighs look awesome in a miniskirt i just dont like the very top in a bathing suit .plus the fact i m over 50  and have to remeber i dont have the body of a 25 yo and was obese for probably 50 years i think that all has something to do with it. buut u r right peoplafter 2 weeks think WOW wait for 9 months that is more realistic but if u take before & after pix it is still 1000% better then before we r just looking for a 20 yo body & perfection

I had my tt in 2006 and it is still flat and hard, the skin is alittle loose again but its only noticeable when I sit down.  Standing up its perfectly flat and I still love to look at it.
