Hello OH family and friends,

My brachio revision and BL are 4 weeks old today and I've been given the green light to start using the scar treatments.  I went into CVS today and found a treatment that's called Dr. Blaine's Complete Scar Care treatment.  It's a combination of silicone gel-pad (can be cut into strips) and a small bottle of liquid gel.  Strips to be used for 8 to 12 hours a day, and liquid gel to be applied when strips are off.  I would like to know if any member has used these and what they think of the results they recieved.  Please be honest!!!  I need to start using a scar product immediately!

Thanks for your imput.  I you have another suggestion for silicone strips or anything else that you think would work as well or better, please share your product with me.

Always,
Rose

I tried mederma before and it was useless. I am only using paper tape right now but my doctor said any silicone strips would be a good idea. I am just starting to look at them now. I would think you made a good choice.

Thank you so much for your response.  I read that about Mederma on Wikipedia.  I also read that the strips come highly recommended.  I decided to try the ones that I purchased yesterday.  I have them on right now.  I'm praying that I'll see some evident results in a couple of weeks.  :)

It's always wonderful to read your posts!  Awesome.

Take care,
Rose

I have these on as we speak. I have only been using them a short time so I cannot attest to the results; however, I have read a lot online and silicone tapes overall get a good review.

Hi Marilyn,

I love hearing from you. :)  I decided to try the strips also, and I too have them on right now for the first time.  I saw the review about the strips, and they got the best reviews overall.  I'm taking the mederma back.  It's too expensive to waste that kind of time and money!

Please let's keep in touch and share our results.  :)

Take care always,
Rose

Hello Rose,
I don't have any info about the specific ones you listed but I have been using the CVS brand silicone strip for about 3 weeks and I have noticed that my scars are thinner, lighter and less raised. I am also using a topical scar fade gel from New Skin (the same company that makes the brush on bandage stuff) on the parts of my scars that are flat but reddish.I also bought that at CVS and I have been using that for about 3 weeks as well. Those scar areas have also improved. I wear the silicone strips for at least 12 hours a day. I take them off when I leave the house because it is too hot here in Phoenix to wear them out side! I put the scar fade gel on the whole length of my scars when I am not wearing the strips. That way I always have something on them working to make them look better. I found the CVS brand silicone strip to be more adhesive and last longer than some of the more expensive, name brand things I tried. I hope this helps.
I also want to tell you how happy I am for you and congrats! God bless you friend!

Hi Sandi,
It's SO good to hear from you.  You gave me some wonderful suggestions.  I will definitely look for the CVS brand when I go back in.  I tried the brand I mentioned for the first time yesterday, and they did alright.  I wear them during the day (on the breast) because I'm in the office where it's very cool and at times actually cold.  But it's okay.  I did put one on my arm last night, but it started to loosen a little around one edge.  I know that it's going to take some getting use to, and I want my scars to look better, so I'm willing to give it a good try.  :)

My surgeon told me to use the scar gel/cream on the areas that I can't use the strips, or when I can't use the strips.  I also bought some cocoa butter like one person suggested.  That's just good to use for moisturizing at any time.

Thanks so much for your encouragement.  I'm doing very well, although things still look pretty "rough around the edges" - no pun intended! LOL.  The suture lines are closing well in the breast area, and the arm is doing better.  In fact, at my visit today he had to numb a little area and pull out a suture that was poking up high under the surface of my skin - OUCH!  It's still stinging right now!  I return again on Tuesday afternoon.  I have a great surgeon and he's keeping a close eye on that arm.  From time to time, that little stubborn spot still bleeds/drains a little.  :(  In time, I know that it's going to line up, and it will be healed!  I've already prayed and I know that it will happen! :)

My precious friend, you have yourself a wonderful week-end.  I'll keep you posted on my progress with these strips! Lol..

Hugs,
Rose
