Good hygiene and lower body plastics freakout

I take at least 2 baths or showers everyday from head to toe. Don't do spit baths, as grandparents use to say. Flips me out to even think about it. Ugh!
Think I have a phobia sometimes.
What's the specifics on bathing after a lower body lift and thigh lift plastics?
I have a handheld shower in tub and walk in shower will I be able to use either?

The day I went to the extended stay hotel from the hospital, I was able to take a shower with DH's help. It was a handicapped shower with a seat and a hand held nozzle. You can get really woozy at the beginning if you try to stand to shower, so sitting is better. I had a lbl and a bl/ba, but no inner thigh work.

Your surgeon will let you know what their protocol is for bathing.

My ps didn't allow me to shower until the drains came out.

For just about everything I used baby wipes, for personal areas, I used more adult oriented wipes.  It just made things easier and not quite as messy since on our main level we only have a half bath.

For my hair, I used No Rinse shampoo - I didn't think I'd like it but it worked really well and was very easy to use.

But nothing beats the day your drains come out and you go home and shower.  At least that's how it was for me.

On my list of questions to ask, and I'm sure I'll have a long list my next appt isn't for 3 weeks. I don't think I could handle until drains came out. I taped up my drain after my DS so I could just get a shower used handheld shower to wash my hair. My DH will be home for the first couple weeks with me so I'll have his help. Not a handicap shower but it's a walk in with a seat. Appreciate all the feed back I thank everyone for answering my questions. Pam

Just be sure to ask your surgeon his protocol. Mine allowed me to shower with the drains in. I do recommend being able to sit the first few times until you're more stable on your feet. It just varies between the surgeons as to what they recommend.

I'm pretty sure that Dr. R follows the same protocol for bathing as Dr. T., it's in the all of the instruction notebooks I've gotten.  You will be able to take a warm shower twenty-four hours after surgery, even with the drains.  You are not allowed to wipe your incisions, you have to get them wet and then pour antibiotic body soap lather over them without touching them, then rinse with shower water.

You'll need someone there with you the first few times you shower because after being in a compression garment, when you release the pressure, most people experience a drop in blood pressure and get dizzy.

You can use a hand held shower nozzle but you have to be careful not to use too much pressure.  No baths for six weeks...good thing you have a shower!  ;-)

I was able to shower about a couple of days after surgery. There are some drs who want you to wait until drains came out. Hopefully you'll be okay.

My plastic surgeon didn't allow showers until the last drain came out -- 3 weeks after surgery. I was going nuts.

Of course I also had to spend a lot more time at home after surgery than the doctor anticipated -- nearly 5 weeks before I could go back to work and I'm in a sedentary job. I just had a lot of problems with the healing.

Good luck,
Susan
