I had hip to hip cut for hernia repair where the doctor peeled me back to my ribs, repaired a canteloupe sized hernia without needing mesh. My abdominal muscles were in good shape, just wide apart. So he stitched them back together in three layers. Then cut off 8.6 lbs of skin going above my belly button (didn't want one, don't have one now) and then pulling it down and stitching low across pubic bone.

Other than 3 weeks of drains and about 5 weeks to heal, the pain really wasn't that bad. It's just those days I try to reach for a dish on the upper shelf in the cabinet and realize I can't because my abdominal muscles are so darned tight -- and it's been 16 months since my surgery.

As for thighs -- that's still on my list of things to get done in another year or two after I save up enough sick leave and vacation time to take 8 weeks off work without having to worry about needing to return to work if my body wasn't ready.

I think my 1st c-section in 1989 had the worst pain followed by the c-sections in 1995, 1997, and 1999, then my gastric bypass in 2007 and my hernia repair in 2009.
