Any help is appreciated.  I am recovering from ventral hernia repair (i had 5 hernias) the extent of hernia was so that i couldnt do plastic surgery at the same time.  Let me just say that surgery hurt!!!!! I have lost 50 more pounds since january just by going back following rules.  i am about 13 pounds from being where i want to be.  My question is does the panniculectomy/abdominoplasty hurt as bad as getting 5 ventral hernias repaired.  i dont want my muscles tightened just the loose skin removed.  would love to hear your stories.  also my doctor said he would do my legs in two steps.  can anyone give me a pain rating on thigh surgery and the recovery time?

I haven't had five hernias but had one repaired with my RNY. My LBL was not about the same so far. It hasn't been a lot of pain except sitting on my rear. I had five pounds of skin removed but the most painful part was lipo on my thighs. They are still sore. If you made it thru five hernias you will be fine. My thighs (done seven months ago) took about three weeks to feel normal but I had trouble wit the stitches popping out. Over all about the same Pain as LBL maybe a little less . Doing both together would be my advice, get it over in one surgery and one recovery. I wish you luck.

OMG the hernia repair was horrible!  the used a piece of mesh and attached it with tacks and i swear it hurt more than my open RNY.  i dont need the LBL because i dont have any fat on my back (weird huh?)  Most of the skin that needs to be removed is across the pannus and thighs inner and outer.  i have lost 50 more pounds this year and i swear i can hardly tell a difference because of all this hanging skin.

You can see in my siggy what I had done.  The thighs were the hardest for me.  My right leg seemed to do it's own thing.  Everything else was far easier than I had expected.  During my first phase I did have a small hernia repair.

Have you seen before/after pictures of patients who just had pannis?

After what you have been thru a panni will be nothing. My RNY and hernia repair was done lap. So it should be a breeze for you.

Hi Karen
I had a maxi tt (which was an anchor cut & muscle tightening) with lipo and the upper arm lift done at the same time. I wont lie it did hurt, but I took my pain meds on the dot and used the compression garments and ice and it was much less painful than I thought.

do you know yet who is doing your plastics?

I am having a breast reduction in 2 weeks and that is scaring me more than the other stuff I had done!

I hear when hernia repairs are done with TTs that it can be more painful than doing the TT alone. I think you have taken care of the worst so the panni should be a breeze compared to that.

My thigh lift was more uncomfortable than my LBL. Pain pills helped take the edge off so just plan on staying on top of your pills and you should be fine.

Did you have the medial thigh lift with lipo, how long until you could go back to work. I can take about 1 1/2 weeks...I went back with my lbl/bl after 1 1/2 weeks...sore but no big deal.

I took 4 weeks off.  I planned to be off 3 but got sick the last week.  I may have been able to go back at 2 but everything was still pretty tight.  If you don't have any areas trying to open then you should be okay.  You'll be moving slow though.
