clothes before, during and after plastic surgery?

I'm going to have my LBL, TT and brachioplasty in October followed by thigh lift and breast lift three months later - clearly there will be changes in my body that I can't imagine at this point in time.

What did you wear after surgery? What was easiest to put on by yourself? How did you dress with compression garments and swelling? Were you able to dress yourself immediately afterwards or did you need help for a few days?

When did your size stabilize so you felt it was safe to buy nice clothes?

After the lbl and arms, I wore really baggy pants to accomodate the drains in the mons area.  on the top, I wore a tank top or camisole that went under my binder to help keep itching to a minimum.  The arm holes have to be big enough to allow to get your arms through with the drains.

Coming home from the hospital, baggy pants and a button down shirt.  Actually, it was a nicer button down shirt and that was my official "going out" outfit.

DH helped me afterwards with getting dressed - putting on panties, pants, socks especially.  But when I felt ready, I would gradually try and do things for myself and if I couldn't do it right away, I stopped.  But I had to at least try.

I also needed help getting undressed as well.  If you are resourceful, you will find that you can do quite a bit with your toes... hard to explain but DH was pretty impressed with my use of toes.

I just made some purchases recently.  Dresses are easy as are tops.  Pants, I still have swelling in my legs.

I just had a tummy tuck and breast lift last week.. my arms obviously are ok, so that will be a difference between you and I, but I have been spending a lot of time in a swimming suit cover up.. it's got a zipper, so easy access to everything and it's comfy. Just a thought, this time of year is great to stock up on these types of things because they're on clearance.

Oh and hold on to some of your bigger panties too.  Between the drains and the swelling, you'll want the extra room.

Hi Skylar,
I'm so excited for you! After my LBL my favorite things to wear were a terrycloth-like, velcro wrap- around cover-up that I bought at Walmart (in the pj section), I actually bought 2. They were $10. I would wear them like a skirt. Because of the velcro they were very easy to put on and take off. I had my brachio at the same time, so this was helpful. I also wore over-sized men's boxer shorts( the regular and knit kind)  and mens t-shirts that I "customized" by cutting off the collar or sleeves or making it shorter, whatever I felt like. In the first few days, I even cut them right down the front so I could put them on like a buttin-up shirt and I would just use safety pins to close them up. They worked wonderfully, especially because thay are lightweight and don't weigh down on your incisions. To go out and to dr. appt, I wore a loose-fitting swimsuit cover-up or a loose pair of yoga-type pants and a button down top. I went commando as far a underwear went just because it was too uncomfortable to wear panties against my incisions and especially with the drains. I was able to dress myself mostly but did need some help with compression, socks, and the like.
For the thigh lift and BL (I'm seven weeks post-op today) I HIGHLY recommend skirts or those terry wrap-around things I wrote about above. I also have 2 sarongs that I wrap around as skirts and wear. They are easy to put on and take off. Pants, even loose ones were not comfortable at all for me. They would catch on my incisions and that just didn't feel good. For the BL my surgeon has his patients wear a snug, but comfortable, cotton, front-closing sports bra for 8 weeks. I bought 8 of them (again really cheap at Walmart 2 for $7, made by Fruit of the Loom). They put one on me after surgery and that is what I woke up in. I have been wearing them ever since. When I am home, and no one is here but DH and myself, I wear that as my top. I mostly wear tank tops when I go out. I live in Arizona, which is a lot like living on the face of the sun so tank tops and skirts work well.
Plan to wear  loose, light-weight clothes for at least 4 weeks (because of swelling). Everyone is different though, you may be able to wear more regular clothes sooner, it just depends how you swell. I think I was in a size 4 denim capris (from a 6 prior to LBL) at about 5 weeks post op, and they were loose.
Hope this helps. I am praying for you and can't wait to hear how much you LOVE your new body!!! God bless you!

Doh!  I missed the thigh lift and breast lift part.

For going out - sundresses worked great for me.

Around the house - I had loose fitting capri work out pants that went over the drains well enough.  I would roll them up a little higher so they would add weight to the drain.

Once I had my drains removed, my ps wanted me to add some compression so I bought running tights which he said were perfect.  I figured I could get medical compression garments but since he was fine with running tights, I knew I'd get far more use of them.  Plus I'll be able to wear them when I fly and still be comfortable.

I had a bl/ba - I woke up in a surgical bra, but my ps told me to only wear something very light, nothing tight so I'm wearing camisols with built in shelf bras.

It's late so I'm just making a quick thank you post today and I'll post more tomorrow. It's clear that I really needed to read these answers - there are so many suggestions that I hadn't considered and I have to make certain that I have appropriate clothes on hand when the time comes. Thank you so much.

After my LBL I spent a lot of time in tshirt gowns. You can get those like for $8 at walmart. I also wore some summer dresses too when I went out which worked great. I just slipped it on over my head and I was good to go.

When I had my arms and thighs done I wore a lot of those soft terry/fleece type zip up robes which I loved. Those first 2 day I needed help getting the sleeves on since I couldn't bend my arms back but once I had it on, I just zipped it up. JCPenney had some on sale the other day I was there. By the time I went to my post op appt, I just put on a jogging suit with the zip up jacket. I also had gone to some thrift shops and bought some button up shirts for $2-$3 but I didn't really use them because I was able to get in and out of my regular shirts by the time I really got out of the house. I found that big shirts worked well too. I didn't have drains for my arms or thighs so I didn't have to worry about those. I pinned the drains from my LBL to my compression garment to keep them from dangling. You will quickly find out what works best for you once you're home.

I found loose dresses to be the most comfortable after-surgery garments.

After my tummy tuck and buttlift (2 part lbl) I actually ended up wearing larger size pants than before.

I have NO waist - I am straight up and down. My waist measurement is for size 22 pants, my hip measurement is for size 12. It is really hard to find pants that fit. I really am unhappy with my results. I also have what appears to be a large mass of adhesions that causes a hard muffin top.

Good luck - not trying to scare you - I guess I just needed to vent.
