1.  liposuction AFTER bariatric surgery See #4 below - Plastics with lipo started when I was 3 years post GB...stable weight x 2 years
2.  Do you know anyone who had lipo before WLS? No
3.  Do you know anyone who had lipo after WLS but before more major plastic surgery? No
4.  Any experience with lipo after major plastic surgery?
YES - I personally have had several episodes of lipo done... lipo to my abd and sides during my lower body lift... lipo to my upper abd for contouring after the LBL (a waste of money)... and finally Lipo to my back (10lbs OMG I am/was so pleased with those results  no saggy skin?? not sure how but it's true). ABD (again during muscle revision work.).. and inner thighs... I have to say that it is painful!  but the results were worth it
Lipo for weight loss... nope don't think so... the only way lipo should be used is as a 'fine tuning tool' but then again that's just my opinion.

Hi,
I had extensive liposuction after my weight loss.  I had MGB.  I had my lipo along with my lower body lift.  I could not believe the results.  I had the plastic surgery about 18 months after I reached my goal weight.  I waited to see how much skin would go back,  sadly not much.
I had my MGB in Costa Rica so I went back there for my plastic surgery as my WL surgeon Dr. Quesada recommended a group of doctors.  I had Lower body lift, arm lift, and breast lift, lipo of the torso, thighs, and arms.
I know there were some difficult days but since I was so happy to be able to put an end to the
long jouney or weight loss I was so happy nothing bothered me.  After losing the weight I so wanted to enjoy my new body.  Liposuction really made a huge difference as it contoured my results.  I now have a small waist, lol, that simply amazes me!!!  The doctors just include the lipo in the lower body lift and to me that made so much sense.
I would recommend lipo for almost any cosmetic surgery as it is like putting the finishing touch on your body.

Thanks for your question.  A lot of people ask this at our plastic surgery practice.  Liposuction is best used for areas of the body that are resistant to weight loss.  The best candidates for liposuction are of normal weight with localized areas of excess fat.  However, some patients feel that they liposuction can help give them the shape that they are looking for.  There have been new advances to liposuction technique recently.  These advancements allow the use of lasers to help to melt fat and cause shrinkage and contraction of the skin. The best procedure right now is something called SlimLipo because it uses a laser that causes the least amount of damage to the body and targets fat.  This procedure is ideal for the following areas: abdomen, arms, back, chest, chin, flanks, and inner and outer thighs.  This is a link to explain some of the different options. http://www.nvpsaz.com/body

HI,

I am three years out today and had a pannilectomy and lipsuction this summer on July 8th.  This was fantastic for me. I had lost lots of weight but knew i would never get rid of that stomach thing that got in  the way and was sooo ugly.  Since the surgery I have gone from a size 16 to a size 12 petite and I feel like I look great in a bathing suit and snug jeans etc. The surgery was not bad, though the drains were a pain. I was in the hospital for 4 days and recovered at home for 4 weeks. My drains came out early and i had some fluid build up that needed to be removed. I still have numbness in my belly and my pubic hari is growing back slowly. The scar is fading quite rapidly and does not show with my new bikini panties!  I look better than I did 30 years ago!  I weigh less now than I did when I got married in 1976 and thnk my figure is pretty damn good. Still have some sagging in my legs and arms but my butt is fine and boobs too.  The liposuction I think made a BIG difference.

My sugery was done at the same center (Tufts NEMC) where i had my RNY so I felt really taken care of and in good hands.  The recovery was longer than I expected but well worth it.  I feel like a true poster child for RNY and post PS!  I am so glad I went for it withthe PS. My insurance paid for most of it but I paid for the lipo, but it was totally worth it. My daughter and I can now share clothes!  Never in life did I think this would happen.

Pre RNY I weighed 307 and am now 165!!

BTW: Dr Davidson, my PS, told me they removed 7 pounds of skin and about 1.5 liters of fat! Whew. Remember Oprah and the wagon of fat, that was me in my body!

For patients after significant weight loss, liposuction by itself is often insufficient to give patients the contour they desire. Liposuction works by removing the excess fat that remains after weight loss, but it does not remove the excess skin which commonly exists after weight loss. Liposuction works best in patients with good skin tone where the skin can "snap back" and tighten once the excess fat tissue is removed. Unfortunately, many patients do not have good skin tone after their weight loss.  Liposuction can be a very helpful adjunct procedure to excisional type procedures where skin is removed. For example, liposuction is comonly used with arm lifts to contour the posterior aspect of the arms, as well as in lower body lifts to help contour the lateral thighs.

Liposuction by itself can be helpful in certain patients. These patients are often young and have good skin tone. Liposuction can also give better results in Lap Band patients as compared to patients that undergo other bariatric procedures. The reason for this is that these patients tend to lose weight at a slower rate allowing the skin to have more time to "snap back."

I hope you have found this helpful.

i just had abdominoplasty and lip both done two days ago...right now im very very sore...tired...i take short naps and it hurts like hell to cough, laugh etc..anything that has to do with making the stomach muscles do some work..i have two drains in and i go back this friday to have them taken out and to have the binder taken off...

the surgeon said he took off 11 pounds of loose skin and pulled all of the muscles together tightly and liposucked some remaining bits of fatty tissure..right now im staying with my parents until i am healed a bit more...but i am able to dress myself, get up and down by myself, use the bathroom alone, and able to make my own short meals like toast, cereal, salad etc. ive had no nausea whatsoever...this is my last plastic surgery operation as i already had the breast augmentation one done last year and this one by far is the most painful. the doctor has me on diladin, and antibiotics to help prevent infection and a sleeping pill..

Thanks for everyone's comments. This is exactly the kind of information I was trying to find. I have so much weight around my middle and thighs, but lap band and other "internal" surgeries seem so scary to me. Lipo seems like an easier way to remove the fat. But from what you all have said, Liposuction doesn't really work for weight loss ...but just for toning after weight loss. However wouldn't you still have to get some sort of plastic surgery to remove all the excesss skin...or does lipo tighten up the skin too?

Sorry for all the questions...I am new to all this. But desperately want to have surgery soon! I am so tired to caryimg around all this extra weight!

Also, I am glad to hear that someone had great results in Costa Rica. I totally can not afford US prices for lipo or any other type of surgery. However for me, Mexico sounds good, as I live in San Diego so it would be an easy trip. (no flight costs!)

Hi Cindy, to remove all the excess skin from your abdomen you need a tummy tuck (excess skin from your arms you need an arm lift, and excess skin from thigh... a thigh lift ) Liposuction is used to remove fat excess but not skin.
After my WLS i went to south america for a body lift,, i was in the same situation and couldn't afford US prices.

I went at MakeoverTravel clinic in Bolivia, one of the most famous medical center in South America for American and European people,, they work with skilled surgeons and provide all inclusive plastic surgery packages. I highly recommend you to go through them,

I paid $6,900 for a all inclusive package that includes
- Tummy Tuck
- Liposuction of abdomen, flanks, arms, legs, back
- Breast lift with implants
- 15 days in a 4stars hotel
- Transportation
- Bilingual assistant available 24h/24
- All blood test before surgery

They don't ask you to pay any dollar before you arrive at center,, totally transparent, they are very honest and it's very safe, and there is no hidden cost (you pay exactly what they quoted you by mail). My trip was one of the best experience ever.
I paid $6,900 for my trip including hotel staying and surgery and all the services but such surgery in the US would cost me about $25,000 just paying for the surgery
