Anybody have/had this problem?

I had surgery June 18 for hernia repair and removal of 9 lbs of stomach skin.  My WLSurgeon did the surgery.  I think it looks terriffic and I really haven't had any problems EXCEPT where the anchor lines intercept didn't heal correctly.  I have a quarter inch circle where my belly button should be that is healing slowly. I think it might heal faster if it could get air.  If I am at home I leave it open but as soon as I need to dress and cover the sore it gets yucky again and has to start all over to get a scab.  It seeps quite a bit so I have to cover it.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem and can offer suggestions.  I go see the doc tomorrow so will see what he says.
Thanks

Specifically that type of problem, no at least not related to surgery.  Stuff that happened to me as a kid I was always taught to clean and dress the wound.  Leaving it open dries the skin and doesn't help the healing process.  Wounds should be moist to heal properly.  There's also the issue of an open wound is more likely to pick up dirt and bacteria.

If you have an area that is not healing properly, you need to check with your surgeon and tend to it according to their protocol.

I have an open wound in my thigh and just like my last surgery and opening I take a 4x4 gauze and wet it with saline and pack it into the wound and then cover it with a dry gauze.  I change it 2 times a day and slowly but surely it heals.

Thank you for your input.  I see that I was looking at this the wrong way.  I immediately cleaned the wound and bandaged it.  I will make sure that I keep it covered.

My dr wanted me to air out my incisions an hour a day starting the day after surgery. Maybe it's different when you have a deep opening but I found airing out the little stubborn spots on my thighs helped it heal and scab over.

I had the same thing happen. 14 weeks ago.  I had to use water to rinse it out like in the shower let the water hit it, then wet gauze pads with saline and pack the hole then tape it shut with medical tape it heal wonderful. You have to do this 2 or 3 times a day it took 8 weeks to heal but it looks great. Good luck with this be sure you take care of this it can get infected.

I had a similar problem at the anchor part of my bl (w/ ba). My surgeon wanted it to air dry. When I did, it started to scab, then as soon as I dressed it and put on a sports bra, it got oozy again. So I went braless for 10 days. I showered and air dried so the scab wouldn't come off. And once the scab was over it all, I started using pure vitamin E. I looks much better now.

Went to my doctor yesterday.  He told me to let it air dry until I was ready to dress and then cover it. It is healing well and shouldn't be around too long.  Thanks to all that responded.
