Drains

I had my Panni done on 7/6, I still have my drains.  Hopefully they come out this week.  I get so tense thinking about the drains being pulled out.  How did you feel after having them removed?

Thanks in advance for the reply!

Blessings,

Nina

Just had mine out yesterday-- and a piece of the tubing got stuck in a stitch-- so guess who now will go through life with a piece of silicne tibung in her ass? WHEE!

You will feel a LOT better not carting the JP drains around. But I am a big fan of keeping them in as long as you can stand it-- had them out too early last time and retained fluid forever.

Did it hurt? Did they take them out at the same time?

A friend of mine said it was like a slippery snake..by the time you realize it hurts, it's over with.

Hey Nina

I know what you are going through in relations to the drains.  It sucks big time.  However I also had mine taken out way t early last time and end up havingto have a drain put back in and over 200 ccs of fluid taken out before I left his office and another 100 CCs by the time I got home.

I have four drains in now and both sides are now putting out less than 200 CCs which I think is good.  Since my surgery was 5 days ago.  I would love for each of them to be less than 25CCs before next wednesday because that is when I see my surgeon.

As for when they are taken out.  My surgeon numbed the areas where he was pulling the drains out he then cut the stitches around it and then pulled.  If he did enough numbing mediciation you should be find for not feeling anything.  I will say that after I had my drains pulled last time it took a while to get use to them not being there.

I hope this helps and that your drains come out soon.  You will love being able to take a nice hot shower.

Hi Jasmine,

Thanks for the reply.  My surgeon told me that they'd probably be removed when they drain less than 30 cc for 48 hours.  I'm getting there, slowly but surely.  I tried on my scrubs today for a trial run since I go back to school tomorrow. Talk about feeling weird. My husband and daughter laugh because I told them I felt I had antennas growing out of the wrong place. LOL

I'm not certain if my surgeon will numb be but I guess I've watched a bit too much "YOUTUBE" LOL

Take care and I already enjoy my showers, but just not to the fullest capacity... the day is around the corner!!!

Blessings,

Nina

For my first round of plastics, I came home with 6 drains (one in each arm and 4 in the mons area).  I remember what the drain from my RNY felt like and I was dreading having 4 of them being pulled out.  Much to my surprise, they didn't hurt at all.  The doctor and the nurse pulled them out together, rather than either one pulling all 6 one at a time.   They worked each side of me.  I felt absolutely nothing.  By the time I looked up, they were already out and throwing them away.

For my second round of plastics, I had 2 drains in (one in each leg).  Those were the worst ones to deal with on a day-to-day basis, and they were also in the longest.  I thought they'd hurt just because they were in longer, but they didn't.  They came out just as easily as the first 6.

I felt unbelievably free when I had them out.  I was also ecstatic that I could now shower.

Everyone's going to experience something slightly different.

I told my daughter the other day, remind me that the next time I bring up having ps on my arms or thighs, tell me to remember the drains  LOL

How far apart were your surgeries?

Blessings,

Nina

They were four weeks apart.  I knew drains were part of the package, and the only drain I had problems with, was the one that was in my right leg.

I've been posting about the problems - the output was always super high; at one point, the drain pulled out too far and lost compression (had to be pushed back in by the dr); and now, there's a possiblity of infection (I don't know if the problem is related to the drain or not though).

When they took the drain out for the RNY - it wasn't an intense pain as it was a very weird feeling.  The best way I can descibe it is like an alien being pulled out of your body - a very hard vibration.

I had my tummy done on 7/8.  I had 2 drains. One came out on 7/14 and the second out on 7/17. The sensation of the drains coming out was strange, but not painful. My Dr. did not do any numbing. It is a nice feeling having them gone.  No more worrying about them getting tugged or pulled. My surgeon had a thresh hold of 30 cc's in a 24 hour period. He explained that the body can absorb 30 cc's on it's own in a 24 hour period, but no more.

Good luck.

Cool!!! Are you still wearing your binder? My surgeon said that upon my return, they would tell me what kind of garment to buy for afterwards.

I know I will be way relieved to get these drains out!!!

Blessings,

Nina
