Doing okay!!

Had my first cry on Thursday when my mom and me did my bird bath.  No showers until the drains come out.

Doing okay this morning finally found away to recline in my bed and still be able to get up and down with out help.  This helps my mom and sister since they are not suppose to be doing in heavy lifting because of their disabilities.  It really hurts them to help me, so I try and do as much as I can for myself.

Like I said the first cry came with trying to get that damn garment back one.  I was only two days out but between all the potty runs it was smelling a little down there.  So we did the bath and hand washed and dried my garment.  Okayed by the doctor of coarse.

I can't wait Wednesday.  I will bathe and clean up that morning and then see my surgeon.  All of my drains in the past hour have each put out less than 50 ccs.  YESS!! almost there.  I know that he is going to want each drain 25 or less in a 24 hour peroid before he takes the drains out.

Pain is doing okay.  I am trying to still eat.  Still getting nausea when I eat certain things.

Please everyone pray that the drains go down enough that maybe two of them will come out on wednesday.  Also  what was the next stage in surgical garments that you all wore for a LBL. I am really hoping that the next one is not as itchy or as tight.

The drains are a necessary evil - I hated them, but knew they had a purpose yet I was so happy when they finally came out!  So I totally understand  how you feel, especially with not wanting to burden anyone else.

Maybe it's your pain meds causing nausea?  When I would get bouts of nausea, I would take eat/drink something with ginger.  Ginger ale or ginger snaps of course - but DH found ginger mints made by Paul Newman's "Newman's Own" brand.  They're in a tin like altoids and sold in that general area of the grocery store.  Those helped a LOT!

As for the compression garment,  I was lucky in that my ps had me in just an ab binder and not anything complicated.  But the ab binder was itchy too - one of the things I read on here was to wear a tank top underneath the garment/binder.  That worked really good too.

Just think - your recovery period is much shorter than the rest of your life, so before you know it this will all be behind you.  :)

Good luck!

Maybe ask for meds for your nausea. Pain pills make me sick so I was taking a zofran in the morning before the pain med. Its nice cause it doesnt put you to sleep.... You will feel so much better when you get the drains out :) .... I wore my surgical garment over my girdle for 6 weeks, but all docs seem to have different times. Hope you get to feeling better soon :)

If it is really difficult getting up and dwon on your own then I would consider renting a lift chair from Rentacenter. It sure made it tons easier for me and everybody around me. I'm all for making the recovery as smooth as possible!

Hope you feel better soon!
