Hello Everyone,

I am new as of today to the site.  A friend told me to come join in hopes to find other Tricare Prime people that had or are seeking Plastic surgery after WLS.  Is anyone out there that had Tricare to cover their breast reduction/lift and or TT?  Please help!

I don't have Tricare - however, what you're going to find is that whether or not it's covered, depends on how your company's policy is written.

The insurance carrier I have - I've seen people post that they've had some plastics covered.  However, when I started the process, they told me it was excluded from my company's policy.  The only exception was that if it was reconstructive due to breast cancer surgery.

Read your company's benefits policy, and if you can't find it contact your HR rep.  Or call the number on the back of your insurance card.  Once you talk to the insurance people, ask specifically what you need to provide to them and/or what the appeals process is.

Tricare is the company that administers the insurance for the military.  Both active duty and retired.  So it is congress writing the policy.

Under certain conditions tricare might cover the panniculectomy.  But you are going to have to have pretty compelling evidence of medical necessity.

ETA:  When I was doing my doc search I came across Dr. Bill Mitchell in Waycross (that was a couple of years ago so I do not know if he still accepts Tricare) who accepted Tricare.  I realize that is a pretty good distance but it is a place to start.  You might also want to look at the message above.  Also wanted to add sometimes it is easier to get the work done at a military treatment facility.

You can read online what it will cover. Its hard but not impossible. I haven't had any luck nor have any of my friends with tricare. A reduction of your breast will be the best bet to get approved but it will have to be a true reduction and not a lift on the paperwork. Good luck.
