Inconveniences of armlift and facelift?

wondering

I was able to bend my arms right after surgery, so could eat and wipe and brush my teeth with no problems (could use a pre and post rinse for a couple of days instead of brushing).  Washing my hair though was a different story - lifting the arms is hard - it was probably about two weeks before I could wash my hair standing upright in the shower - before that I had to bend over in the shower, and once I went to the stylist to get it down ($50.00 for a shampoo and blow dry!!!).
I slept in my bed with a pillow on each side and my arms propped up on the pillows - I'm 3 1/2 weeks out and still sleeping like that - I find it comfortable.  The pain is manageable - I take one oxycocet at night before bed.
Other inconveniences:  We live with a step ladder in the kitchen so I can reach things in the cupboard.  I bought a robot vacuum cleaner so the floors could stay clean.  The dog wakes us up at night because my husband forgot to fill his water dish (and I can't).  The place is a bit of a mess because I get tired easily (anesthesia takes a while to wear off).  Getting dressed is a little hard - for the first 2 weeks I was afraid to wear a bra.  Overhead tops still go on very gingerly.  Driving and typing are a little hard/sore.  Make an appointment now for a pedicure (if you like your toes painted - husbands are terrible at this:-))  If you're the only one doing the cooking, make some meals ahead of time and freeze them.
Good luck
L.

Thank you for all of the detail.  It makes it easier to imagine.  I have a lot of tops that button up the front so as long as I don't raise my arms, I should be okay with that.  As for washing my hair, Bill has done that for me before.  I am taking at least 3 weeks off from work and maybe 4.  I sit and type all day on computer and my arms are pretty much down at my sides and tucked in so I should be able to manage.    I already take liquid Loritab to sleep for arthritis in my spine so it sounds like that will still be enough for pain.

Thanks for the tip on cooking---my husband can only make soup!
This too will pass, like a kidney stone but it will pass!

I had no problems bending my arms at the elbow after surgery. I fed myself fine at the hospital and at home. The ace bandages weren't to tight in the elbow area which helped. Fortunately (or not) I didn't have to wipe behind for about 4 days because of constipation which was a blessing for me. That bought me some time to become a little more mobile so when it when it was time to I was fine. I also needed help putting on and taking off my tops the first week. I think I was washing my hair on my own at about a week out. I slept with my arms propped up on pillows for about the first 2 weeks and tried to keep them elevated as much as possible during the day.

Just remember not to reach for anything too far even if you aren't hurting. You can still pull something open when you least expect it.
