Pre-Surgery Vitamin Question

OH, my, yes, though questions are answered over and over, they still get asked. I am so glad y'all don't mind!!!!! (wink)

OK, so I was thinking--wow--my pre-surgery consult will happen next month (ON MY BIRTHDAY). I want to be in the best place physically and mentally as I possibly can be for my September 20th surgery. (FDL + LBL + lipo of saddlebags)

I am having a horrible time remembering to take my vitamins. I am taking them daily, but to get on a good schedule--I am still working on it. Pre-surgery, when I was just worried about my multi w/iron and calcium only--no biggie; one in the am, one in the pm. I have since upped how many vitamins I am taking (with the blessing of my PCP) in trying to really build up reserves for healing. I am on the low side of iron (not anemic but on the low side of normal), but more so on the feretin ? --something to do with iron. I also will start taking bromelein soon, and upping the vitamin Ds; along with probiotics. Anything else I should be considering? I have upped my protein from 60 a day to 100. One month before surgery I will up again to 120 - 140.

Thanks for your input. I have other questions, but I am listing them separate so I can find them eaiser later.

I'm assuming before your PCP gave you the blessing to up the vitamins, he/she did blood work to let you know exactly what you should be taking and possibly referred you to a nutritionist to help you understand when to take them/ which to take together, etc?  If not, you might want to go back and have that discussion.

I know 7 days prior to surgery, you'll be told to stop everything - with the only exception possibly being iron and maybe some prescriptions that your dr deems necessary.   I'm anemic and kept my iron supplement the same but increased the iron rich food I ate.  Best source of food iron - is from animals.  Although spinach is rich in iron, it also contains an enzyme that works against the absorption.  Since I did my surgeries a month apart, my ps ordered iron infusions for me between the two.
