Cracking up....waaaaay up

I had a LBL and to my dismay woke up after surgery with a heinie crack almost to my waist.  This after I saw pics of doc's work, did my homework as a lurker here, and spoke specifically about it pre-op.  The doc would not give me a specific reason why he did this (English is 2nd language, not Dr. S), though I suspect it had to do with the amount of skin he removed and the blood supply/healing he thought was safest. I lost 250 lbs and had a 'bucket of skin' (his words) removed.

Has anyone had this happen and then had a revision to correct it?  Is there a way to revise it?

Thanks for any info.....Ms. O

I'm sorry and I hope you can get it fixed. To be honest at first I thought this was a joke post, but I realize you are serious. I did see this in one picture I saw - can't remember where.

I haven't had surgery yet, so please take that into account reading what I've posted. When they do the LBL they lift and pull skin up from the pelvis and down from the abdomen- however when you were fat the skin was stretched in all directions. In other words, you may need additional surgery pulling skin in from side to side allowing some redistribution of the excess skin so it doesn't crease to far up your back. I believe this is one reason why some people have a LBL with and anchor cut abdominal scar too.

Another thought - I suggest you post pictures here and ask for feed back. Maybe others looked like that immediately post op but it changed over time to a more normal appearance?

I like you, discussed that specifically with my surgeon. Specifically the front side.

Whether or not English is his first, second, or third language, he should be able to explain why he went the direction he did.

I'm  having a hard time thinking it's because it's the amount of skin, unless there was a skin condition.  My initial thought would be (as my ps did) was to cut low and pull the skin down, trim and stitch.

I would ask for a copy of the op notes from the clinic/hospital where this was done; or from his office.  He may have documented something in there.

Good luck.

When did you have your LBL? Mine seemed kind of high immediately afterwards, but now at 2+ post op it's sagged some and looks more normal (though still flat). Give it at least 3 months before you decide to worry.

Thanks for your suggestions so far.  I will get a copy of the surgical notes.  i had the procedure 7 months ago, and it has dropped a little but still way up there.  I traded rashes from under the panni to the great divide!

I have a vague memory of reading once where someone wrote about having it 'released' later to correct it.  So far I haven't found any specific info online.

actually....  :)  I had a really high crack too and even what looked like 2 cracks and my back side around my cut looked gathered... On my 6 week after pics the second crack was gone and it no longer looked gathered. You could still see my high crack though. After a yr I had a tattoo placed over my back scar and it helps to hide my long crack and scar. It looks way more normal now, so hopefully in time yours will look different too.  (if you want to see mine just send me a friend request)
