I had my TT 9 days ago, and decided to step on the scale today and was astonished to be 5 pounds heavier!  Please tell me this is swelling or something surgery related. I worked so hard to lose the weight , I havent seen the # I saw today in over a year!

It's swelling.  It's your body's way of repairing itself.  If you notice I posted about my drains still being in - they're still draining out all the fluid that's causing me swelling.

My weight is up as well, but I know it will come off - but I totally understanding the panic of seeing numbers higher than you're use to seeing.

Keep your eating in check and don't eat out of reaction to the number on the scale and you'll be fine soon.

Good luck!

The iv's they give you during surgery and the swelling your body is using to heal itself, especially after something like a tt, are pretty common. Don't get bummed, stick with dr's. plan, and focus on healing!

A single iv bag can cause 2-5 lbs of weight gain! You had multiple during surgery and most will tell you tha twhile he removed weight with the excess skin - you've added fluid from iv plus swelling and general trauma to the body. Could take up to 6 weeks to get it to go down...I think 2-3 is pretty normal - it just takes time!

I had a TT 7 days ago.  They removed 7 lbs between the skin and fat removal and the liposuction.  I'm 5 lbs heavier today.  Its swelling and fluid retention.  My surgeon told me to expect to see that leave in 3-5 weeks.  I can tell everyday the swelling is going down and I'm happier and happier with my results! :D Lou

no TT here (yet!) but with my BL/BA 2.5 weeks ago, I was up almost 15 pounds!!! it took a while to start coming off but it just keeps doing it..i was happy to see 138 earlier this week but i saw 135.1 this morning - be patient - its so hard but so worth it!

Be happy.

Very, very good advice JusRio! I waited until at least four weeks before I even thought about weighing myself! It takes a while for your body to rid itself of all of the extra fluids. Weighing yourself will just freak you out.

Hi! Move away from the scale :-)

Here are some tips I found on post op care:

  1. Drink plenty of water; this is very important. Your body needs water to help flush out the residual anesthesia and pain meds -- especially after you cease taking them. Plus, you will retain more fluid resulting in being more bloated and increased swelling if you do not. Also, your medications can cause constipation and being dehydrated can only make things worse.

  2. Remember that swelling is normal, as is bloating. If you accept it and continue to drink water and eat a balanced diet, all will subside in its own time -- with a lot less stress.

    Hope that helps!
