What type of post-surgery PS flight is best????

Okay, I have my PS doc options narrowed down.  One doc is in Tijuana and the other in Mexicali-so I will fly into San Diego for either.

I am anticipating having a BL/BA, extended TT with lipo and butt lift.  My question is for you folks that have had to travel a long distance after surgery:  What return flight is best?  The shortest one or one with a couple of layovers so I can get up and move around a bit during layovers?

I will be traveling 9 days post op and have from San Diego to North Florida to travel....
A  LONG  WAY!

Thanks for your thoughts on this.

HI there-

Sorry I don't have any info on this, but wanted to say best wishes on your surgery! We had a 4 hour drive home, and my ps gave me a shot of Lovenox (sp?) to make sure I didn't develop any blood clots. You might want to ask about that before you leave. He also told me we needed to stop every couple of hours so I could get up and move around, again as a prevention against blood clots.

Good advice on the shot.  I will put this on my "list"!

I am leaning toward the layovers.  Inconvenient, but may be worth it.

Thanks for replying!

Hi

I had to fly from Monterrey MX to San Jose CA.  I chose to do a stop over in Mexico city, it was great.  It is good to move around.  Make sure to ask for wheel chair assistance (but don't say anything about surgery) they will ask for a Dr release to fly for anything under 2 weeks post op. You do not need to tell them why you need wheel chair assistance.

Good luck

I'd also recommend trying to get an aisle seat and letting your flight attendant know that you recently had surgery and asking him or her if they'd mind you getting up from time to time in order to prevent blood clots.  I did that on my 5 hour flight home from having WLS.  If you let them know up front, they'll generally be more understanding.
