I had a wound check and the dr gave me some medicine to put on a "bad" spot on my incision, at the very end on the left side., anyway, it is late at night and I cant call until tomorrow but the dressing is sticking to the spot and is pulling the scab off when I go to change it.. was wondering if it would hurt to put some neosporin or something on the dressing so it wont stick.. any ideas? The med the dr gave me is like bactroban.  I just hate pulling  off ever bit of healing as I change the dressing.

I wouldn't put neosporin on it.  I had an issue with my drains.  On my left left, I had seapage by the insertion point.  The 4x4 gauze pad kept sticking to one small little spot and kept pulling the scab off and caused some bleeding - probably similiar to what you're experiencing.

I put a small band-aid over the area since the pad of the band aid is designed to not stick to wounds.

I'd say, put the cream on it that the dr gave you, and cover that spot with a band aid provided the tape part of the band aid doesn't interfere with any other part of the incision.

Lisa, why no neosporin? My doc recommends it. They all seem to have different opinions :)

When I started the itching phase, my ps said he didn't want anything on the incisions at that point.  The first thing I could put on them, was the scar cream.

In the instance of the OP, I'm not sure neosporian would have been the right thing - the problem was whatever was oozing out was sticking to the gauze which kept reopening the wound.  Which is the main reason I recommended the band aid.  That and she couldnt' call her doctor to confirm that neosporin was okay.

Maybe try non stick gauze. My doc says use neosporin until my wounds close, but I would stick to what your doc gave you.

Once my steri-strips were off and that was at 1 week post-op I was told to use neosporin on my incisions. Always best to ask your surgeon what he recommends.
