Liposuction and WLS -- do they go together?

Unfortunately I don't know anyone who had lipo preoperative or postoperative.

I do know people who had plastic surgery but no mention of lipo.

Personally I would have to do more research on lipo to gain the full picture of the positive/negative effects.  I'm always up for learning more and love to hear experiences from patients.

I don't have alot of knowledge with Lipo but I did have a bit of it done when I had my panni removal in March.  My doc did just a small bit of it to help shape my hips once the panni was taken off.  I have felt like it was a very good addition to my surgery because it helped me gain confidence in myself.  I feel like I truly have a nicer figure now and the lipo on my hips made my shape very normal looking again.    I didn't experience any negative side effects from it and it was not painful at all.

I hope this helps a little.  I am sorry I dont have more to contribute.  Just to say, I would do it again in a heartbeat.  I think it was well worth it.

Huge hugz,
Tracy

Anyone who has had WLS should consider these options without concern of what anyone else thinks of it. I'm one of those who wish I had the insurance to cover it, but will live with it if I can't. Those I know who have had it done are overjoyed for the opportunity to do so.

I agree,  plastic surgery and liposuction are part of the completion of a WLS journey.  I personally have not met anyone who had liposuction done prior to WLS surgery, but most of those I know had it after WLS and achieving their goal.

Although I do not know anyone who had lipo before wls personally, I am sure that some have tried it in lieu of dieting.  I do know people who have had lipo with their plastic surgery after wls.  It was done in conjunction with the surgery  to help with contouring.  I also know people who had lipo done who were not entirely pleased because it didn't give them the results they were hoping for and was quite painful.  I wonder if the new "smart lipo" or  "laser lipo" results are better.  It is supposed to "melt" the fat deposit and also "tighten" the skin-laser effects. Did anyone have laser lipo?

I have not had lipo done, but have had plastic surgery. I trust my surgeon and if he had suggested it I would have done it.

I have had 2 plastic surgeries and will have 1 more on 9/27/10 that all involved some amount of lipo. My top weight was 355 and now I weigh 175.
I do not know anyone who had lipo before WLS. I do not know anyone who had lipo after WLS but before major plastic surgery. My experience with lipo after major plastic surgery is this:
I had my upper arms done, breast lift and implants in 2008. My surgeon did lipo around my sides and back of bra area. I had a lower belt lipectomy in 2009. My surgeoon did lipo on my tummy, butt, thighs, and back. Lipo does make you bruise alot and it does hurt while healing, but in the long run it is absolutely worth it. I will have my medial thighs done in 10 weeks and he will be doing alot of lipo on my thighs and calves. The recovery from plastic surgery is more painful than WLS but I could not be wearing a size 10 today if I had not gotten my extra skin cut off.
My plastic surgeon specializes in post-baritric body contouring. He has been awarded several "best of's" in our area in Washington State. www.gavindry.com Check him out, he does amazing work

I have not had any type of plastic surgery or lipo done yet.  I just had my evaluation with plastic surgeon last week.  I am waiting to see if my insurance approves any or some of it and will go from there.
