Liposuction and WLS -- do they go together?

I have not had any kind of surgery other then my RNY.

My viewpoint on Lipo or PS is that neither is done IN PLACE OF WEIGHT LOSS by following your plan.

To contour the body after SIGNIFICANT time lapse and body is back to normal from the effects of your WLS is acceptable to me. When you have reached goal, MAINTAINED GOAL WEIGHT for the time YOUR DOCTOR sets as being acceptable, then these "HELP METHODS" to shape and help the body be all it can be is a good final step in our seeking body image approval. HEALTH MUST come first. Is it HEALTHY to have the PS or LIPO. Will it improve your physical well being as well as your mental well being.

Body image is an important psychological issue and these "HELP METHODS" should be the LAST STEP. Sort of like the cherry on top of the icing on top of the cake. ((SUGAR FREE OF COURSE)!!

With the plastic procedures I've had, there was some lipo involved.

By the way the OP's post is constructed, I am taking this to mean that there is research going on to use lipo as a means to lose weight, not to contour the body.  Therefore...

IMHO, lipo is not a suitable weight loss method, therefore it shouldn't be part of WLS; but rather (and I'm speaking in terms of individuals like us who have lost a lot of weight) reserved for the finishing touches.

If lipo would be used as a method of weight loss, the problem of obesity would never be solved.  People have got to learn how to eat properly, not stuff themselves knowing that they can get it lipo'd out later.   The only people that would serve are mis-guided plastic surgeons.

I don't know anyone personally who had lipo, but think it can be an option for patients.  It would be especially valuable in focused areas, but wil result in loose skin if alot of fat is removed.

I have not had lipo after my weight loss, but I agree it is a option for patients.  However, the larger patients we do will not benefit from lipo, they need tummy tucks, arms, and upper thigh plastic surgery.  I have in fact had my arm surgery to reduce the extra skin and I love it.

I have not had any plastics yet or Lipo. However, it will be right down the road soon! Reading all these post has been so informative and a learning tool to me! Thanks!

I haven't had lipo pre or post op.  I am not sure that it would benefit anyone who had a great deal of weight loss.  We kust have too much skin.  I suppose that for someone who had to lose just 60 or 70 pounds, lop alone would be an option, but for those of us sho had to lose over 100 pounds and especially those who are over 50, I think lipo might be a waste of money,

Unfortunately, I am unable to answer the actual questions because I do not know anyone that I could relate an answer that would be relative to your questions.

BUT, I do know someone who did have lipo done to their neck and buttocks when they had their tummy tuck.  It was a man, and he is 40.  And in my opinion, there was absolutely nothing wrong with they way he looked (at least to me).  I thought that he was very attractive and a good catch, if he would had not been married.  I feel that he had the TT and the lipo done as a quick fix to not wanting to exercise and strengthen up those tummy muscles.  The man did not really have a lot of belly on him to begin with.  Although this is all my opinion.  I just think that he did this as a quick way to lose his gut with out dieting.  I also think that he may have been pressured some because his wife is a exercise freak.  She is so fit and works out everyday for hours and hours on end.  Exercise is more important then anything else in her life.  She was running and doing her regular exercise routine when she was nine months pregnant.  So it could very well be that he thought that he had to do something of this sort for is wife to find him attractive and so forth.  So that is the only person that I know that has had some lipo done and as for him having it done to his neck and buttocks, I cannot really tell the difference.  But I do not see his buttocks other than in jeans, so there very well could be a big difference, but not one that can be seen through clothes.  As for the TT, like I said I did not think that he really needed it, but used it as a "quick fix" instead of just trying to lose those few extra pounds.

The beauty of a woman is not seen through what she wears. It is seen through how she carries herself and the way she doesn’t allow herself to settle. Don’t ever let anyone take for granted the beauty that is within you. Stand firm and know that you’re a wonderful person. Always remember your value and respect yourself. I’m so blessed to have you in my life.  Sometimes we all need to be reminded how special we really are!

I do know of anyone who has had lipo before WLS or lipo after a major plastic surgery.  From my experience, I had a TT in March 2005 prior to having WLS in February 2007.  Most people would criticize this and say that I did my surgeries backwards. I did what I thought was best for me.  I thought by having the 10 pounds of skin and fat removed from my tummy area would encourage me to move forward losing weight. It did...for little while...I lost about 35 pounds.  However,I  regained it all back plus some prior to having the Lap-Band in '07.  Thank goodness the weight gain was not so bad to have blown the full results of the TT.  I have since had smartlipo and vaser surgery in July 2009 and I am extremely pleased with the results.  FOR ME---I will take full advantage of what I think is best for me and hope for the best results possible from having these types of surgeries.
