Are the scars worth it?

I have lurked around on this message board for nearly a year and now I am planning for plastic surgery of my own on August 4th.  I have a final consult two weeks beforehand to determine what exactly I will be having done.  I am planning on a tummy tuck for sure and strongly considering having my arms done.  My arms in my opinion are bad.  I have seen worse, but they are at the point that I would never wear a sleeveless top or even a short short sleeved shirt.  This prevents me of course from many of the cute things there are out there to wear.

My question is this....knowing that the scars can be bad....is it worth it?  How have others felt about their scars on their arms after their surgeries?  Do you show your scars or still wear longer sleeves?  I don't want to have any regrets for not getting my arms done, nor do I want to have regrets for getting them done and having horrible scars.  What has your experience been?

Thank you in advance for any responses.
Katie

I am less than a week out from a TT and brachio, but from what I can tell, I will be going sleeveless soon, for the first time in my life. The loose, droopy skin bothered me and prevented me from wearing the next smaller size in some cases. So, I wore tops that could fit my arms but were a bit to big on my body.

I would say my scars are about as ugly as they'll get and I feel okay about them right at this second. Pics are on my profile.

Good luck to you!

it soooo worth it! i'm 6 months out of a brachio. n my scars are very visible n kinda red now, i know the color would go down with time but if they  stayed like they look now i wouldnt mine! i feel more confotable now i wear strapless dresses n tops n i feel great. n i dont care if people can see them

wheni have a big party where i have to wear gowns or a coktail dress i use a lil makeup on them n u can barely tell. :) I go to lot of parties n i just wanted sooooo bad to be able to show my beautiful dresses without the need to cover them up with some jacket or scarf. so yay! :)

I'm so grateful i have my scars! is better than all the saggyness lol. oh yeah n I just turn 25 years old  so i'm young to have one of this scars but im wearing them with pride! lol
goo luck! i would do it again  n if thew were uglier too lol!

IMHO, they are worth it.  I hated my arms but was determined to not let that stop me from being comfortable in tank tops at the gym or short sleeve shirts at work.  Worst case scenario happened a few times - people asked what happened to my arms.  When they hear the weight loss, they're excited for me.

Now with the scars, people see the scars and want to know "what happened?"  I tell them.  I'm working on getting past the whole concept of caring what other people think.  I'm doing things for me.

Does that mean I'm blind to the fact that some people are ignorant enough to form opinions based on appearance, no.  I'm not trying to let their issues become my issues.

Sorry - I went off on a tangent there.

That really is a personal preference. No one at my job knows I had an arm lift so I do wear 3/4 sleeves to cover them up. They look great but I am just very self conscious about them. Now when I'm at home or in public, I don't care. I'm sure I'll feel much better about them once the scar fades though!

I have almost 170 inches of scar line from my LBL, Breast lift, thigh lift, and arm lift with flank skin removal.  How I feel about my body and how I look are definatley worth it. I also teach water fitness at a pool in a bathing suit so there is a LOT of my scar line visible at work.  The scars are so worth it! There are times when I'm self consciouncious about my scars, but I can set that aside to how confident I feel and how little of the time people notice my scars.  Even my leg scars are not noticed and they are wider than either I or my surgeon would llike. They are prominent!  My arm scars are visible from the back of my arms at times, but very, very, very few people notice them now. They were very visible at first, and someone at Costco really upset me by commenting on them and even touching my arms.  I almost punched the stupid woman, but I didn't. Now, you would really have to look for the scars, even in my bathing suit.  The odd part is that my newer scars on my arms, and down my sides to my hip bones will turn bright red when I drink a glass of wine or other alcohol.  I'm hoping that will go away with time - the older scar line does not glow red!

Only you can say whether the scars are worth it for you.  For me, I had brachio a week ago today.  I'm going to have a very long scar but my arms seem so much smaller now.  I will be wearing short sleeves again - it was so worth it.

TOALLY WORTH IT!!! I love my arms and call them my "Michelle Obama" arms. After my surgery the upper portion was a little small and I thought they looked a little like Popeye so I increased my workouts and now have really defined beautiful arms. I go sleeveless almost every day with pride. As far as my scars I love them too (but they are barely noticable). I earned my scars and sometimes think I'm like The Bride of Frankenstein...but remember in the end when the doctor and monster were both fighting over this woman with scars and fancy hairdo :-)
