What do you put on your incision/scars?

Yesterday I had all my stitches and staples removed.  I asked the Dr what I could put on them. He said I didn't have to put anything on them, but could use cocoa butter or Vitamin E if I wanted to. What do you guys use and how often? I also got the go ahead to use a girdle for compression instead of my abdominal binder! Yeah!

Awesome! I use organic coconut oil for my scars. I used it when I had my TT, BR, and arm lift three years ago. My scars are practically invisible. Every doctor I have shown them to has been very impressed. They are a pale pink/white color and blend in nicely with my skin. I already bought a big tub of organic coconut oil at Whole Foods to use when my stitches are out. I faithfully massaged my scars once or twice a day for months, and will do the same thing this time!

I used just cocoa butter and vitamin E oil on my tummy tuck scars last year.  This time for my arms and boobs though I'm using a cream called Biocorneum that is brand new on the market and you can only get through your plastic surgeons office.  It's a bit pricey though.  The tube is small and goes for $55.00.  It only lasts about a week for me because I'm putting it on the arms, boobs and old tummy tuck scars too.  Supposedly this is the newest thing and they are having great results with it.  Unfort. it wasn't available when I had my tummy tuck last year.  I scar really really badly with keloids and hypertrophic scarring so I'm going to spend the money and use this cream for the 90 days that they suggest.  I figure at this point I'm in for a penny in for a pound!  The studies say that the only thing that really works for people like me is 100% medical grade silicone which is what this is made of.  So we shall see.  So far I have to say that at 7 weeks out my arms already look better than my tummy tuck scar that is a year and a half old.  So the results are promising thus far.

3 yrs ago when I had my LBL I used Scarguard MD.   My incision is almost invisible.   Looks like a panty line.    I have seen it at Walgreens but I bought my at my PS office.

Most scars will fade to almost invisible with time even if you don't use anything.. I had 3 csections and had the vertical scar and it faded to nothing within a year or so. My surgeons just told me I could pay a lot of money for what was out there or just use cocoa butter or shea butter. He said the results are the same. He said there is no scientific evidence proving otherwise. Now he does recommend silicone scar sheets for keloiding scars or the hypotrophic (sp?) scars.

I had used maderma for a short while with my LBL but that was pretty pricey for what you get so I just switched to cocoa butter. Now for my LBL scar I used cocoa butter but the interesting part was that I really never put anything on my backside for the scar because I just focused on the front and the backside faded faster than the front. Go figure!

My plastic surgeon recommended I use a cream containing aloe vera or vitamin E.

PM me - I just found a really great product that is getting rid of my old keloid scar.  I wish I'd had it right after surgery.  Mederma, Scar Guard and other products didn't even touch it!

Ask me how I got rid of my keloid scar!
