How long post op after your lower body lift and breast lift, were you cleared to begin weight training/lifting?

Cardio?

How long until you were able to participate fully without restrictions?

I had lbl with butt aug, and ba/bl.

I was cleared at 2 wks to do 10 min of cardio a day with limited work with a single 5 lb. weight. I am cleared to add 10 min per week of cardio. At 6 weeks, I will be cleared for full activity, except for any ab work, including crunches, planks, and push-ups. I won't have clearance for that until 6 months out. I don't know when my weight limit will increase- will find out at my next app't.

6 months no abs/core?  I would cry...or do a happy dance LOL  I cant figure out which.  Is there a reason so long?  The muscle repair they do?

Yes- the muscle repair needs that long to heal and assure no damage from core work. It was very difficult for me to think about that- I was doing 600 crunches at a time several days a week- and I am still going through some withdrawals from it. But, when you see your new tummy, it will be worth it.

See my siggy for what I had in round one... but leaving the hospital I was told to "ambulate as necessary."  I interpreted that to mean not just back and forth from the recliner to the bathroom - but do a little bit of walking in between but not over do it.

Actually going back to the gym, I could do light walking on the treadmill or light biking after week 3.

Since I had my arms done in round 1, I have not been given the go ahead for weight lifting yet.  I just need to be careful with not picking up too much in day to day activities.

I haven't asked about resuming all normal activity; however, since my job requires air travel I had to add 2 additional weeks of recovery time on to my leave request.  That's more so for comfort of my thighs.

Congrats on your surgery.  Have the arms been painful?

How long until you can start weight lifting with your arms?

The arms have not been that bad at all.  I think right now what is the hardest for me is the thighs.

He didn't give me a date when I can start lifting again, although I just had my breasts done so it'll be at least a few more weeks.

Aloha Missy-

You probably know this...I was so worried about being away from the gym. Not because I was afraid of gaining, or never getting back to pre plastics condtion, but because I enjoy it so much, and it is such a mood elevator for me. The better shape you are in beforehand ( and I KNOW you are in terrific shape!!!!), the quicker and easier your recovery will be. No doubt.

For me- cleared for stretching and yoga at 12 days post op. For me, this was doing low leg lunges, squats, presses and gentle yoga- but never with  weights. I found myself tired after 10 minutes or so, and stopped when that happened.

Cleared for cardio and weights at 21 days post op- with the caveat that I "ramp up" over the next 3 weeks to pre plastics levels. So if I pressed with 15 lb dumbbells pre plastics, I'd press with 5 lbs dumbbells. If I did 60 minutes of cardiokickbox pre plastics, I'd do 20 minutes.

Did not attempt my Core class till the 5th week or so, and did not do my 60 minute Boxing class til about 8 weeks post op. No problems at all, and when I went to Cabo 10 weeks post plastics, I swam, kayaked, went to the gym everyday, did Cross Fit on the beach - my goal had been to heal and be in a bathing suit by 10 weeks post op, I was ahead of the game.

Remember - up that protein pre op and post op! With my sleeve, I still have no hunger 2 years out, and felt even less like eating after plastics, so I depended on protein shakes to ensure 125 g protein per day- started 3 weeks prior to surgery and will continue fior 6 months post. I'm retesting my body fat next week- it was 17.4% pre plastics in the dunk tank, so I'll see how much condition I might have lost. My surgeon did not bother to weigh the excised skin, he said there was not enough fat to make it weigh a significant amount despite taking 8 inches off the front and 6 off the back. I feel you are in the same boat- remember less SQ fat at plastics means less tugging down around your tummy incision which will improve your healing.

Be well- XOXOLori

Thanks so much.  Did I even mention you were my workout guru?  :)  I am not in the shape you were, but still pretty decent.  My trainer and bootcamp instructor are both really focused on getting me as fit as possible between now and then.  You should have seen the twinkle in my trainers eye when she realized we will be able to see my abs after LOL.  And then made me do a killer ab routine.

I am like you.  I hate the thought about being away from the gym.   And it isnt because I feel like I wont get back or cant get in shape again.  But its fun for me, part of how I take care of myself...its just a big part of my life now!  I am really going to miss it!

I keep being told I dont have much fat left...but its hard for me to believe when I look at myself.  Even the doctor who gave me my last physical commented on how I had very little fat left.  I just cant imagine how I am going to look with the skin off.

I wish I could tank test...I dont know where tehy do that.  I do get hungry, but plan on adding shakes before hand and then using them alot after, esp in the early weeks.

And YOU, Missy, are everyone's inspiration!

I know what you mean- I still look in the mirror and see the 330 lb woman. I got tears in my eyes when my PS called me a "tiny" woman, there's just no way to wrap my head around that.

You are in better shape than you think you are, and you have done so very well to prepare for this. You'll have to take my word for it that you'll be able to see those abs defined, because the caliper test doesn't work on us ( too much skin) and the electrostatic scales just don't work.

Keep us informed, you have many followers!!!! XOXOLori
