If not, what did you take for swelling?

I'll call my GB surgeons office tomorrow, but wanted some advice from those that have had it done.

Thanks,
Rachel

I had RNY and when I mention to any doctor that mentions any drug that I know is hard on the stomach, I tell them.  They always take that into consideration and usually end up giving me something else.

And by swelling, do you mean by post surgical swelling?  If so, then your best bet is to let it run its course.

 Hi Rachel,

I am wondering if we have the same PS. My doc also prescribes Celebrex to help with swelling. I have taken it with each cosmetic surgery with no problems.

Who is your doc?

did the Celebrex make that much of a difference? I always wondered why PS didnt prescribe something short term for the swelling. How long were you on it for?

 Hi there,

I am not sure how much of a difference it made just because I don't have anything to compare it to. I was on it for 5 days, maybe. I need to look at the prescription to remember, but it wasn't long term.

I had some swelling------mostly with my brachio! I felt with the tummy, I didn't swell too much!

Actually, I just read your posts.....we do have the same surgeon. How funny! When is your surgery date? Mine is June 25. :-) I am having a revision to my  brachioplasty that he did two years ago and also all my back rolls removed. YEAH! I had a tummy tuck with him and and of course, the previous brachio.....my tummy tuck was awesome! CHeck out my pics!

Anyways, you can email me and we can chit [email protected]

According to my Bypass Surgeon the answer is NO, NOT ever.  I haven't had plastics yet, but used to take celebrex for my arthritis.

Hi Red...

That's what I'm thinking. I seem to recall a friends mom took it and ended up ulcerating her tummy soon after surgery. Yikes.

But I've also heard you can take something to coat the stomach first...maybe that would work for short term treatment after surgery. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for the info,
Rachel

Hi Ladies,

My surgeon says the combo of pain killer / celebrex really helps with pain management in the first few days. (as does a friend that is a nurse in an after care facility). I'll let you know what my GB surgeon says tomorrow.

Hi Mommyteacher,

I remember you from the Cali board. We also had the same GB surgeon...Dr. Ali!

I just had my pre-op today. Here's something funny. I really wanted my surgery on the 25th...but SOMEONE got the spot before me!!! :-p So yep, the 28th for me. Did you talk to Ali's office about celebrex, or did you just take it?

Hi Rachel,

Honestly, I think I did call and ask Ali's office, but my first surgery was 2 years ago and I can't remember if I called him or my Primary. Did you ask Dr. Kent what he thought about the Celebrex? He probably told you to call the GB surgeon? I am anxious to hear what Ali's office says.

That is really funny about the surgery date.....I scheduled it back in January, crazy huh? I get out of school on the 23 and wanted it right after.

I love Dr. Kent. This will be my fourth procedure....this time is part revision and part new surgery. I really like the office staff and they have always been so very kind.

As far as your binder or garment, I bought an extra binder at a medical supply store off of Tustin and Chapman. I also bought a garment at Kohls. It wasn't a medical garment, but I think it worked.

I might run into you at a post op appointment, huh? :-)

Good luc****ep me updated! If you have any questions----ask away. I know you know other people who used him, but I have used him recently, so I might be able to answer little questions that you just dont want to email or ask the office. My email is [email protected]

Have a great day!
