Surgery next Friday....What do you think?
I had a bowel leak two weeks after my RNY 10/08. Open surgery with a wound from breast bone to private area. I had a wound vac for 8 months. Anyway, I am now scheduled for surgery this Friday. My weight had been stable for over 9 months. Labs indicated I needed more iron and protein to be successful during surgery. (I had three blood transfusions in three months right after the RNY. I was so anemic that I passed out and fell at home and broke my hip a month after the bowel job. Had to have surgery again and was in a nursing home for three weeks with home care for 9 months) I have doubled my protein input and have added heme iron to my other iron supplements - thanks to this site I see this heme is the iron to go with. By doubling protein input I have also increased my calorie input by about 400 calories. Now I have gained about 10 pounds since my last doctor's visit. I don't stray from the proper foods but find myself eating too much at each meal. The doctor doesn't want me to snack or drink my protein.
Here's my question. Do you think the doctor will postpone the surgery due to the weight gain? I know they want you to be at a stable weight for awhile before surgery. By the way, I am having the hernia left behind from the bowel surgery fixed and he is removing the tummy while there.
I do appreciate all the posts about what to expect from the surgery. I think I am well prepared and have a page of questions to ask when I go to my pre-op on Wednesday.

I had a similar experience with weight gain the month of my ps. I had my consult 6 months after reaching my goal weight, scheduled surgery for the end of May - which was 6 months after my consultation; so I was 1 year at my goal weight.
This past May was crazy for me with a lot going on between work, a half marathon and getting ready for surgery. My food intake didn't change except for increasing my iron rich foods - which were mostly red meats. No matter what I did, I managed to put on about 12 lbs that my body would just not let go.
My ps never weighed me (although I wouldn't have objected if he wanted to); I can't remember if the hospital weighed me for my pre-admission testing. Regardless, I never worried if the extra weight would be a reason for them to postpone surgery. I doubt you have anything to worry about.
The only difference is that I had my RNY in 2001 and I didn't have the complications you did. I am anemic but I had issues with iron prior to my RNY.

For the record, I had my first round of surgery on 5/28 and weighed 172. I weighed in with Weigh****chers today and I'm 159. I still have some swelling, but basically the stress of surgery, the crazy work schedule, the half marathon, and the cold are all now behind me and I'm back into my normal routine.
I would suggest discussing it with your doctor and make sure that when you do, you have a plan in place to get back to a normal routine. I've known women that have lost over 100 lbs, had plastic surgery and because (IMHO) there was no plan for a normal routine during recovery - regained all of their weight.
DH has never been one to monitor my food, but I flat out ask him during recovery periods to watch me like a hawk, and if necessary smack the food out of my hand. I know me and it's easy for me to fall into the "Oh, I'm sick it's okay to eat...." pattern.
Have a plan and you'll be fine.
