help/?
Hey y'all how is everyone doing? Great I hope. I am having some issues and wondering if I should be worried. My TT was on May 28th and the day before I was at the dentist and got really sick. I guess the rinse stuff did not agree with me because I had a major bowel blowout and voimting for about 45 minutes. I felt bad for the other patients in the offce. Now that's the last time I have had a bowel moevment. I have taken stool softners, laxatives and nothing has happemed other than the occasional passing of gas. Should I be worried? Now for part two. They removed the drains last thursday and the area where the tube came out of my left leg bleed quite a bit and the doctor said just but a sanaitary pad over it so you don't mess up your clothes. It finally scabbed over and stopped Sunday. Now this morning I get up and I have blood every where because the right leg is bleeding every where. Should I be worried or just get a big pad and tape it down? Thanks for your help.

Mamapeaches, I think you should contact your doctor's office and tell them about both of your issues. To not have a bowel movement for that length of time after surgery is not good and you don't want to end up with a bowel obstruction. Secondly, it doesn't sound normal that your drain opening should be draining blood and especially not for this long. Please call your doctor. I will be praying for you.

I had seepage from my "holes" after a couple of my surgeries for quite a while after the drains were removed. In my case it never was an issue. I watched for signs of infection and if there were none I just taped the sanitary napkin on over the hole and kept on marching. But certainly if you have concerns then speak with your doctor. As to the BM -- you definitely need to talk to your doc. Pain medication can bind you up big time but by now you may be impacted and trust me that is no fun. Have you tried an enema?

I agree with everyone else, I would definitely call the doctor. I had major problems after my plastics and didn't have BM for several days also. We tried everything but taking stuff orally wasn't going to get things going from the other end. I literally became impacted and it was horrible. The only thing that helped was the glycerin suppositories. They worked like a charm without making things explosive. Wearing the compression garment didn't help matters either, so I always unzipped when the time came, I left the hooks but just unzipping helped ease things up a lil bit. Good luck.

Like the other's said, call your doctor. But here's some of my other thoughts -
Did your doctor tell you to take any kind of stool softeners as part of the discharge orders? I had my first round of procedures on 5/28 too and it took me until Tuesday (6/1) PM to have my first bowel movement. I was given discharge orders to take colace, and when I saw my surgeon on Tuesday (6/1) morning, he gave me further advice. Had it gone beyond Tuesday (up until my first follow up, I had a couple false alarms but I could feel things moving inside) I definitely would have called back to his office.
As for the leakage, again, call your doctor however, it could be a seroma - which is normal. I had one when I had my hysterectomy and the way it was explained to me was that fluid can build up around the incision areas and enough pressure is there, will find the path of least resistance and come out. The purpose of the JP drains is to collect that fluid and collect it in the bulb and that should avoid seromas. However, once drains are removed there's still fluid just a lot less and a less likely chance of seromas. But again, I could be wrong but it's what I've experienced with other surgeries. And of course, I'm not a doctor.... which is why you should contact yours.
Thoughts and prayers be with you.
Good luck!

When I was discharged from the hospital the papers aid to take stool softners beause the pain meds will constipate you. I will call tomorrow and see what the doctor says. I am not uncomfortable and I do pass some gas now and again. I don't feel bloated like I normally feel with constipation. I usually take a correctol at night and go the next moring but so far I have not seen any movement at all. Every now and then I have a slight urge but it passes quickly, so I will give Mr. Fleet a try tonight.
Thanks everyone.
