I had my pre-op appointment yeaterday for my BL and LBL, and was shocked when I heard that "doggie ears" may be a possibility after my surgery. Has anyone had a problem with doggie ears? When faced with the posibility, I actually reconsidered the surgery.

I don't have dog ears myself but I do understand that it does occur.  I know when I had my consult, the plastic surgeon they were quite easy to fix.

Forgive my ignorance, but what are "doggie ears?"

the best way to describe them is a 'pooching' at the end of incisions...they are skin that just pooches out, very noticeable and very very common.  you wont be satisfied until they are removed.  you have this nice flat incisional line with the little area of skin puffed out at the end of the incision.  some people dont mind it, but when you have a tummy tuck and want a flat abd, it can be noticeable when you wear a form fitting dress.  very very easy to take care of post surgery in the office..a little lidocaine and snip snip and its done.

Ginger...

I had doggy ears on both ends of my abd incision, as well as on the top of my verticle incision right underneath my breast.

after i had healed and feeling better, i returned to the office and he 'tweeked' them.  he gave me a local, made the incisions and trimmed the ears...it was a piece of cake.  now everything is flat and looks amazing, no pooching!!

good luck and please let me know if you have any questions.  again the doggy ears are nothing, and very normal!!

It's not uncommon at all for an incision to heal with a dog ear at the end. They are easily fixed and most surgeons do it as a revision without an extra charge. Just be sure to ask your surgeon what his policy on revisions is.

Wow.  Good to know.  I'd been thinking about doing my surgery overseas in Costa Rica, but then getting something like this taken care of afterwards would be darned difficult.
