I got a really unusual email today about the Rosenstock Lieberman clinic.  I'm wondering what experiences the folks on this list have had with RL clinic, both good and bad.  I'd like to know what people here think of what the author has to say.

Here's the text of the email I got:

TITLE:  AVOID ROSENSTOCK AND COHEN ... READ

Ladies, There are 2 Plastic Surgeons in Costa Rica with near perfect track records. They are Lev and Cruz. Come to your senses and use these guys. Avoid Rashi Rosenstock and Jose Cohen at all costs. These 2 have far and away the worst track records in CR. Problems include the death of a nurse, a botched tummytuck where Rashi forgot to administer an anti nausea drug to a lady. Post surgery she dry heaved for 12 hours ripping open her sutures and required a 2 month stay in a San Jose hospital recovering. I get complaints of numerous botched facelifts, breast implants etc and many serious infections. RL clinic is a mill. They care about one thing. Grabbing your cash. Please visit the 5/24 recent post be a lady named Rae Ann. She went to Rashi and Cohen and got a completely botched face lift and boob job. go read it before it gets deleated. Many Many problems at RL and dont forget, You have no legal recourse in  CR. These docs bring in tourist $$$ and they are immune from lawsuits. Come to your senses and stay the Hell away. And no I do not make a dime at this. Just looking out for you. Stay close to home or use Lev and Da Cruz if you must venture to Costa Rica. Sincerely, --. Hope to hear from you soon

I am not considering surgery outside of my area so I have no idea who these people are. Personally I don't trust this information. I do know that there is one honest statement in this email you got "And no I do not make a dime at this" - this sounds like it was written by one of those people who get paid if they direct patients to "their doctors" who I presume are Lev and Da Cruz.

I googled the title of the email you received and came up with information supporting and not supporting them.  Nothing really conclusive.  I would suggest digging deeper than I did into the practice.  Perhaps finding out more info on each docotr, etc that just on the email.

Good luck.

No matter what if you were considering either of the surgeons listed I would be somewhat concerned.  No matter how you got the info (although shady) I would dig deeper for sure.  You have no recourse with surgery out of the country, no malpractice suits.  I had the same thing in Mexico.  It was very scary signing those papers.  Just do as much as you can to find out everything possible.  I talked to many many patients that had used my surgeon and researched him for 8 months before having my surgery.  It just seems like there might be some truth to the email.  No surgery is 100% safe, there can always be complications.  My surgeon has his "group" on OH and I followed it daily and went back and read all 40 pages of old questions and information.  Hope you get some first hand responses!!  Toni

Thank you, all, for your input.  I have been researching the doctors in question for a long time and know many happy patients.  The Rosenstock-Lieberman Clinic has a Yahoo group that I belong to and have been reading for about 6 months.

I'm down 215 pounds and starting to think it's almost time for the plastics.  Then again, from reading this forum, I'm thinking I might be better off with the hanging skin!

I do not know anything about these doctors but I do know every doctor will have someone who isn't happy. They are usually the most vocal. I used a highly recommended doctor and did not like my results and aftercare at all but that was my opinion. Someone else may have been very pleased with the same results. Its kinda a chance you  take no matter where you have surgery. If you have enough good info on your doctors I wouldn't let this email worry you. It could just be one unhappy person trying to get revenge. I would check it out as much as possible but not believe everything I read.

I received a similair email, many months ago, asking me to contribute $$$ to a website that "exposes" things that supposedly happened down there.  Probably it's the same people/person.  http://www.badcenteno.com  I have been to the Paseo Colon district of CR many times, and visited their clinic.  It is one of the older, more established clinics in CR and is well thought of in the country.

Any overseas surgery entails extra risk, as standards are different and nearly impossible to verify.  There are significant concerns regarding followup care, and I have posted a list of things to do ahead of time if you are intent on going this route for PS.

I would disregard the sensationlism and base your decison on you interaction with the doctor and testimonials from other patients.

Thank you again for the input.  I am a bit concerned now that I've gotten this guy's email and seen his website.  It is hard to know for sure if the various complaints on his website are real or are made up.  I think I'm going to write him and ask him to get me in touch with some of the dissatisfied patients.

Thanks again!

Hi Julie,

You can get in touch with me, I have the pictures and stories to prove that all the surgeries performed by or I should say at R/L aren't a success and some have horror stories to them. I witnessed a lot of them in the 4 months plus that I stayed in Costa Rica due to bad results.

Take care~~~

I've been researching my plastics for a long time now. I've looked at all the surgeons mentioned. No idea who sent that, but I agree with them.
