DVT
I have Dvt and is considering a tummy tuck.
because of chronic infections I was getting in the folds of my stomach.
My primary care Dr suggested it.
The first plastic surgeon told me "no way" would he do it.
The second told me he had to get an ok from my vascular , primary care doctors and he also sent me to a critical care doctor and I would also have to give 3 pints of blood . I have to have a echo cardiogram (ordered by the he cridical care dr.) and give the blood then he will schedule it.
My 2 questions to my fellow members is
1. Do any of you have DVT and have had plastic surgery . (i'm tired of the infectuons but I don't want to die)
2. Have any of you had medicare pay for it.

Several years ago I had a DVT in my leg and subsequently I learned I have multiple genetic clotting disorders. Consequently I take coumadin. I have had several plastic procedures. I have had TT, butt lift, breast lift, arms, brow lift and upper and lower eyelids done (twice). I have not had any problems. I use arixtra as a bridge. I go off the coumadin five days prior to the procedure and start the arixtra shots. I do not take a shot the day before surgery and I am admitted to the hospital the day before the procedure. Then after the procedure they start the arixtra I think it is 18-24 hours after surgery and then restart the coumadin a couple of days after the surgery.
You might want to see a plastic surgeon associated with a major medical center or teaching hospital. I do not see a vascular doc but I do have a hematologist that I see (I get my coumadin level checked weekly). When I have my plastics there is always a hematologist assigned to my case who sees me prior to surgery and follows up as they start me back on the coumadin.
There has only been one mishap. When I had my TT the resident started my arixtra (or lovenox) too soon and I developed some internal bleeding that required a second surgery.
I am a little confused by your question however. Generally the DVT itself resolves over time. I know that when I had my DS I could not have surgery until the blood clot in my leg resolved.

I have a long history of DVT's in my left leg and pelvis. The surgeon who did my panni removal insisted that I get an IVC filter put in before the surgery (and even then, at the very last minute, he changed his mind about doing the mons lift because it would require him to cut through a large distended vein). The second PS I saw had no problem with cutting and cauterizing the vein.
I did not have to give blood before any of my procedures, but did have to go off the Coumadin 7 days before, and then had to take Lovenox for 7 days after until my PT was therapeutic again after restarting the Coumadin. As long as we keep my INR between 2.5 and 3, I have never had a problem with a clot after surgery... I just get them if I go off the Coumadin for any extended period of
time.
Edited to add that I have had no new clots at the time of any of my surgeries, but have multiple clot remnants from clots I had before the advent of the "clot busting" drugs like streptokinase.
