Skin Removal Questions. Please Help?

Well the loose skin isn't the main reason why I won't get the surgery done. I've hesitated for quite a few more reasons. The main one being that I'm afraid I won't be able to control my eating habits even with the surgery. I don't want anything tearing or something further...

Thank you for the info though. I really appreciate it.

You are very smart to be concerned about whether or not you will be able to control your eating after surgery.  The surgery will help you control it to some degree, but you can "out eat" any of the weight loss surgeries.  It's a difficult position to be in... to be so large and to want a normal, healthy life, but to be afraid of not being able to attain that without surgery while also being afraid that you might not be able to attain it even with the surgery.  Perhaps you could consider seeing a counselor who specializes in eating disorders or has a strong background in weight management and behavioral therapy as a prelude to surgery...?

Yes, I have been thinking about seeing a counselor. I was when I was younger but I forgot why we stopped. But I know it would probably a LOT now.

I was going to suggest working with a counselor too.  While at this point getting a handle on why you eat may not help much with your weight -- it could help you be successful with WLS.  Which procedure are you considering?

I'm not really familiar with the names of each WLS. At first I was considering the lapband surgery. But then I ended up putting the surgery off for the past two years. Now I'm considering the second surgery, I think they remove a larger part of your stomach. I'm not really sure. I figured maybe the second surgery is better because it has the reputation of helping lose more weight faster. The faster I lose the weight the faster my health risks would go down. I'm not sure really what is best for me.

All of the WLS methods works.   It's just a matter using the tool the way it's intended to be used. But since you have a concern over regaining weight because of not figuring out why you over eat, what I would recommend to you is:

1. Get back to therapy
2. Once you start to make real  progress with the therapist, then look for your WLS surgeon.  Although you may find that you might want to lose weight without surgery, it is possible that at your weight you can do it without surgery.
3. Once you find your surgeon, work with him/her to figure out what is going to be best for you.

I had RNY.  But I didnt figure out a lot of the head stuff and after a year or so and some major life changes, regained about 25-30 lbs.  I had some medical issues, and was encouraged by my doctor to try Weigh****chers again (4th time).  This time, the combination of everything, I was able to figure out the head stuff and eventually got to my goal weight.

WLS is not a quick fix.  There is so much head work that has to be resolved too.

There are four surgeries being done today. Each has it's own pluses and minuses. But even under the most ideal cir****tances they are not equally effective for everyone. So it is up to you to do your homework to decide which procedure is the best fit for you. Visit the different surgery forums here and ask questions about the procedures. I had the duodenal switch and I could not be happier. Let me know if I can help in any way.
