Questions for consult

I'm going for my first plastics consult (yeah!) on Tuesday.  Does anybody have a list of questions they used at their consult?  I like to go prepared... ;0)

I'm looking for panni first, but I also want to ask about breasts, arms and thighs (with panni or without...not sure what should be done together or how long to wait in between - I guess I have my first few questions!)

I don't remember if I had a specific list of questions, but I do know that as he explained things to me, I would ask questions.  He was very thorough and covered everything I wanted to know.

I wanted to know what he would recommend, the sequence in how he would do the procedures, how he'd group them, time needed in between the procedures, which hospital, how long am I in the hospital, in general what are the post op care instructions like, when I can I return to work, when I can I do air travel (my work requires travel), implants - saline v silicone, and how frequently do you do these types of procedures.

I'm going for my first plastics consults later this month so I'm thrilled you asked this question. I'm going to ask what percentage of patients have infections - that is an important concern to me.

Moosie (Ruth) who often posts here suggested I ask for names and contact info of 3 patients as references to call.

I'm friends with at least three people who have used this surgeon, and I've seen some of their tummies...so I don't have to worry about the reference part!

The infection one is a good one though, I'm writing that down...

If you ask about infections, be certain to follow that up with what are the causes - sometimes post op infections are the result of not properly following discharge instructions - not cleaning properly; chaning dressings properly, etc.  Those are infections that can be avoided.  KWIM?

Hi Erica, i had my panni done on may 03rd. a couple of weeks ago a developed an infection. it is about half gone. i believe it is caused from doing too much too soon. and only having the drainage tubes in for a max of 24 hours. they should have been in longer. i have seen the surgeon once and will see him again next week. i now have a home care nurse coming to my house 3 times a week.

Congrats on your first consult.  Is it with Dr. N?  I went and saw him several weeks ago, he was very nice.  I also saw Dr. K who already received approval for my panni from OHIP.  It's funny, i went in with a long list of questions and barely asked any.  I guess I am just so uncomfy showing my body that I got tongue tied.. so if your not shy.. you should be fine.

I am also going to MI to see Dr. H in less than 2 weeks.  Once i get his views, I will make my decision.

If you want any insights on those doctors... just send me an email.  I'd also love to hear how ur consult goes.

Best Wishes,
Toni

I am going to see Dr. N.  I'm hoping to get into see the plastics guy at Barix as well when I go for my followup on July 12th - but the lady at the front desk didn't know how to book it?  I guess I"m going to have to call the other number directly to try to get it figured out.

I'd love to hear your insights!!

I am pretty shy about showing my "flubba" to another man - so I have a feeling I'll forget all my questions as well....
