Hi!  It is my first time on this forum , and I am only four months out of surgery.  I know that I have to lost and maintain for quite some time before PS is even an option, but I am just wondering if insurance ever covers procedures.  I know that I will eventually need my arms done, so I just thought I would ask.  Are there some precedures which are more frequently or less frequently covered?  Do I have to prove that surgery is medically necessary?

Thanks for any feedback.  Have a great day.

Read your insurance policy - that's where you find what your insurance covers.

In general, yes insurance will cover some procedures.  Mostly commonly the panni.  However, some folks have had more procedures covered.

My insurance didn't cover anything - basically their response was that they weren't saying I didn't need it but they just do not cover plastic surgery unless it's due to reconstructive work because of breast cancer, etc.  And that's what is exactly what is in our policy.

Good luck

You have to check with your insurance company for the particular policy that you have. Mine will cover my panni if the skin hangs below the pubis bone and I have at least 3 months of documented visits to the PCP with rashes, bought and tried the prescription meds order for treatment. This seems to be a popular requirement.

I went to a Plastic Surgeon in Beverley Hills who specializes in patients who have lost a large amount of weight. I figrured he would know what strings to pull to get insurance to cover a lot of it. He even said that because I am a teacher, I am more likely to have things covered than not. Unfortunately, I got the reports back and the ONLY thing that they will cover are my arms. They said my BMI was too high for the panni. I thinking about going and having procedures done in Mexico since I have to pay for it out of pocket.

WOW!! they covred your arms. I have documentation of rasheds in my armpits and they are willing to cover the panni just with the hanging skin.  I am going to appeal the arms since they hurt so bad when the rashed flair up

Yeah, you will have to check to see what your specific insurance policy provides for.  Then only thing I was able to get insurance to cover was my panni removal (even though the documented rashes in my armpits from the extra hanging skin were almost as bad as those on my belly)... so I paid for my arms, my mons lift, and my tummy tuck myself.  Let's see, my TT should be paid off about this time next year...

The panniculectomy is the procedure most frequently covered.

Yes, with ANY insurance policy you will have to meet the criteria for medical necessity...
