drains out - 12 days out-please read
I went back for my post op visit today at 12 days out. I got both drains out today! YAY!!!!!
I go back in two weeks-June 14.
The doctor thinks everything is looking good and said I am swollen quite a bit and will be for a while. I am to continue to wear my binder. Is there other types of garment that anyone would suggest besides the binder? I need something easier to get on and off by myself.
My only restriction was to not lift anything over 15lbs.
So at two weeks how hard was it for you to bend over, lay flat and then once down to be able to get up on your own? I want so bad to sleep in my bed again and get out of the recliner.
Thanks-Jenn

I did prop myself up in the bed last night but again my neck kills me. I had a discectomy with fusion 2 years ago so my neck is used to being on sofy pillow at night in certain position. Grrr!!!!!!
My binder is wearing out quickly and nothing was mentioned about a replacement so I am trying to find something besides a binder. Hoping someone will give me some ideas.
I took my last pain med 2 days after surgery at 7 or 9 that night and nothing since but an occassional tylenol for the neck/head in mornings. I never had problems with constipation either, thank goodness!!!
Hope you get your drains out soon.....keep me updated.

HI
go to www.marenagroup.com and you can buy nice garments there about $50.00 or so.
I had to sleep in bed after a weeek i couldnt stand the recliner any longer,. I didnt try to bend over.
you cant lay flat, prop pillows under you knees. my muscle is so tight after 18 months I can still feel it pulling when I lay completely flat so I dont lay flay I dont want to stretch the muscle again , i am a side sleeper anyway

The only way you will know if you are ready to sleep in your bed is TRY IT. The first time I did I decided I wasn't ready; but the second time (around 2 weeks) I was.
My doctor released me from my compression garments, but I went and got an OTC body shaper at a department store and it really helps. It's not "surgical grade", but since my doctor gave me the ok to not wear anything, I think it's adequate. I wear it sporadically, especially on the day after I have bad swelling OR if I know I'll be out and about.

I looked at some body shapers at JC Penney last night and I even tried one and I thought it would go on so easy but it didn't and It felt so weird around my belly when I was just trying to get it over my butt so I pu t it back and didnt get it. Was it hard on you putting it on to begin with or am I just letting it get the best of me?
Thanks - Jenn

Jenn,
I'm guessing you had a tummy tuck. I had an LBL 6 weeks ago and have been sleeping in my bed from day one. I would sleep flat on my back with my regular pillow under my head, and multiple pillows under my bent legs to keep them up. There's a trick to getting up ...I have a sleigh bed and what I would do is roll over on my side facing the edge of the bed, reach up over my head to grab the headboard and then lower my feet to the floor while pushing off against the headboard to sit up.
I had no trouble bending over LOL it was standing up that was impossible. I told my DH that it's not fair - they do a surgery that forces you to look at your dirty floor but you can't do anything about it but look. Actually, I found that if I went really slow, that I could bend down and pick things up.
I bought a couple of high waisted body shapers and then found out that they irritated the ab-tightening sutures, causing them to burn and resulting in muscle spasms. So I'm just going without and really only have minimal swelling in the afternoons.

Yes, I did have tuumy tuck with muscle repair. I am going to try my bed tonight. I am thinking a couple times and it will get easier. I guess I just fear pulling something inside that shouldn't be with the strain of getting up.
When did most of your swelling start to fade away? I have my son's wedding in 4 weeks and am getting concerned that my dress won't zip. I will not now but of course none of my clothes do. I guess it will get easier with each week? oh, how I hope so. LOL
I had to laugh when you said that about bending over and seeing your diry floor and not being able to do anything about it. That is what goes through my mind when I am home alone and shower what if I drop this or that but so far so good.
Thanks,
Jenn

I know i am just a few days ahead of you. Sounds like you are coming along great! I started sleeping almost flat a few nights ago. I still have trouble getting in and out of bed or out of our big comfy chair. Not painful, just awkward.
I was given a compression garment, with legs and shoulder straps and a sports bra since I had the BL/BA too. I have found it very comfortable. They actually gave me an extra set, which was very nice! The garment is similar to this one: http://marenagroup.com/garmentstore/product/tabid/199/p-34-1 st-stage-suit-with-suspenders-and-short-legs.aspx
I can't wait until I can sleep on my side again!
