Dry Skin after PS

Has anyone experienced lots of dry skin after plastic surgery? I'm finding my skin is extremely dry everywhere...not just near the surgical areas.  I've been off the pain medication for two weeks.  Could the anesthesia have caused this?  It isn't the most horrible thing to deal with but I'm curious if anyone else noticed the same.  Thanks.

My surgeon requested a daily shower using antibacterial Dial...and it has caused more dryness than usual.  I have applied more lotion to help.  Also the compression garment seems to effect the skin.

Thank you so much for answering!  I have been using the Dial antibacterial too...that must be it.  I think I may start limiting the Dial to just the areas where I am healing and back to what I was using before everywhere else.

I have noticed my scalp is extremely dry. It normally is not this dry. My hair is so different when trying to style also. No matter how much product I use. Are you noticing this with yourself?

My scalp did seem to be dry at first but I haven't been noticing it much since the first few days.  My hair is a bit drier but I haven't been conditioning it either.  Showering takes extra time since I try to be so careful and gentle around the incisions...conditioner has been temporarlly back burnered.

I regard to the compression garments...I did not wear any so isn't at the root of my problem.  Thanks everyone for all of the respnses.

My skin has been fine, but my surgeon also does not have me showering yet - only sponge baths.  So the dry skin might be the Dial, however, for each of you have your diets gone back to normal?  Are you back to getting enough fat in your diets?

As for the hair issue, I know anesthesia can make your hair fall out - not all at once but you'll notice more coming out when you comb your hair.  Anesthetia might be the reason it's more difficult to style too.

Thanks and yes I have notice hair coming out.  So in time it will turn itself around I hope.
Hope you are feeling well since surgery.

Hair loss and dry skin - either one and I'd be wondering about fats and protein. Make sure you are getting enough omega 3 fatty acids. If you don't want to take the fish oil pills, you can get ones that are more easily absorbed like Coromega, or Vectomega.

Hi I am almost 6 weeks out from surgery and still loosing skin!!  Its like a bad case of dandruff when I take off my garment.  I also use the dial just on my incisions so I think its more the stress of surgery (anesthesia) and the stupid garment, I think it acts like an exfoliant I swear.  I use a heavy vit E body butter stuff and it helps but is a lil oily for a few minutes.  I just had my hair cut last week and she noticed alot of hair coming out so I guess I'm going down that road again also.  I also wonder if the swelling causes the skin to shed??  I had swelling in my feet and legs and basically everywhere so its being stretched???  Who knows hoping it stops soon though!!!

Included in my post-op care package (given to me by the surgeon's office) was a super-duper moisturizing body lotion; so I'm thinking dry skin must be a common complaint! I haven't really used it much, though....it's so super-duper thick and sticky, so I prefer my own body lotion better.
