Initial Heavyweights -- how about those legs?

This question is really for those who had more than 200 lbs to lose.

My weight was pretty well proportioned even at my highest weight, but the last pounds that I'd gained were definitely in my legs, especially in my thighs, but also around my knees and in my calves.  Like most people, I've lost weight from the top down, and sometimes I feel like I'm only just beginning to see significant weight loss in my thighs.  I suppose that's not really true since I've changed pant sizes (lots) but weight loss there sure seems slow.  Sometimes I feel like I have not lost anything around my knees.  I recently bought my first pair of "real" jeans (eg. no elastic waist - haha), but I tried on lots of pairs that fit fine everywhere but around my knees.  I do have a knee injury -- years ago, I tore the ACL and was afraid to have surgery so it never really healed properly.  I think there is some swelling around that knee, but the other one is pretty fat still too.

What about excess skin on the legs? I hear a lot about thigh lifts, and I'm sure that's inevitable for me, but what about excess weight around your knees or calves?  Did you lose there too?  Was there excess skin there?  Do they do surgery there?  Does that skin recover better than the thighs?

I'm just curious about what's still ahead.  Thanks for responding.  If you'd prefer to respond in private, that's fine too.

My knees were large also but it was all skin. That was where gravity left it. I had a thigh lift and had most of it removed. I have had both knees replaced so I also get some swelling but they look so much better even with the scars.
