Did you have drainage around.......
Can anyone please help me out with this issue? Had surgery May 20th.
Today at noon I noticed my gauze around my drain site had some yellow drainage on it. So, I cleaned put a new one and then again at 5pm I have more. It is not covered but can definitely see it.
This is the first time I have noticed anything on the gauze since I left the surgery center. The drain site looks good I think. Is there something going on inside that could be causing it and for it to be yellow? It is my left side and at any time since I have been home it has never drained mor than 10cc at a time. I usually do this every 4x a day.
Any ideas ? Comments ?
All are greatly appreciated!!

Yep, definately had drainage from around the site. Not only did I have a little bit of yellow stuff on the guaze, once I went to work it was draining liquid from there as well. First few days back at work it soaked thru the gauze and compeletly wet the front of my pants and was running down my leg. Thank God I wore black pants both days. I say just make sure you are keeping it clean and change the gauze more often if you notice it draining in it. Eventually it will stop. Didn't have a problem once the final drain was removed at week 6.

Thanks, I was so worried especially since the left has only drained 16ml in 24 hrs and my right that is not bothering me has drained 75ml in 24 hrs.
It makes me feel better to hear from those that have gone through it. Sounds like you had a rough time with the drains once back to work. Are you on your feet a lot? Were you still hunched over when you went back to work? I am glad it is better for you now!!
Working from home has been such a life saver for me. Not as nice as working in my office but I am in my recliner using laptop and put my work phone beside me on end table and legs propped up on pillows. I get up every two hours or more and walk around for 15 min then back to work. I only had to miss work on the 20th and 21st.
Thanks again for your help!

Don't be surprised if, after the drains are out, the hole continues to drain a bit until the site is healed over. I kept mine covered with a gauze pad that I changed every time I used the bathroom. It lasted about three days...

No, I actually have a desk job and am not on my feet much. The people I worked w/ also did a lot of the running around for me so I didn't have to move much. I only had 1 drain that remained in b/c it just wouldn't stop. It had slowed down but once I went back to work it increased to about 100cc's or more per day. After a few days it started to slow down again. Not sure what really happened. My first day back I ended up w/ a slight fever by the end of the day so not sure if that made a difference.
I was actually walking upright @ 2 weeks and going to the gym @ 3 weeks when the 3rd drain was removed. It wasn't like I wasn't active prior to going back to work. Guess you can't really explain how the body works. Once the drain was removed I didn't have any drainage out of the site after the first day that the drain was removed.
