Has anyone on BCBS Federal Employee Plan gotten any kind of plastic surgery covered after WLS?

I got a tummy tuck covered last Nov. but they denied me first.  Please do be sure you have lots of documentation  together when you apply for coverage.  Even after the TT there was a slow down in paying the hospital as they wanted proof from the dr. that it was medically necessary!  Pretty odd as they had already agreed it was medically necessary!
Good luck and don't give up!

Yep - had a tummy tuck last January.  Be sure you get a Dr that KNOWS how to submit to the insurance.  Many don't know how to submit to get it paid.

thanks to all replies. Is the TT the only surgery you needed or the only one you could get covered by Insurance. Did you have to do the whole I have had a rash or infected skin type documentation or did your surgeons just know how to get it done?

I found my own surgeon.  I definately did document rashes as I was having a heck of a time with that.  Anything you can document can help: visits with your chiropractor if you're seeing one, skin irritations and prescription meds for them, bladder problems from the tummy putting pressure in that area.  Any problem that affects your daily life might help.
                      Good luck!

Did your Bariatric surgeon recommend you to a plastics or did you find one on your own?

I got my panniculectomy (sp?) covered, but not my tummy tuck & my surgeon tried twice to get my thigh lift approved, but got denied both times.  I am now trying to figure out how to financially work that surgery.  It's frustrating what they put us through & what they consider "cosmetic", but we have no other options.  Good luck with your journey!
