Is anyone elso going through this?
I have been feeling like I have been going crazy this past month! I have often times thought about checking myself into a mental hospital! Has anyone ever heard of ............
POST OPPERATIVE DEPRESSION, or POST SURGICAL DEPRESSION?
I found out about it doing a search about the causes of depression. Then I Googled it. I read that it can occur immediately after surgery as well as up to months later. I am about 3 months post-op. Lately, I have been having severe anxiety attacks, severe depression, crying spells, even times throwing tantrums! Has anyone else heard about this? Has anyone else gone through it? Is there anyway out of it without being put on antidepressants? I was on those in the past and had trouble tolerating them. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Do you see the glass as half empty or half full? I say, what difference does it make--I paid for a full glass,so either way I am getting jipped!!!
I'm sorry you are suffering. Yes, post-op depression is very real. You don't necessarily have anti-depressants as your only treatment option. Perhaps talking to a therapist, pastor, or trusted friend about your feelings will help? Are you part of a real-life support group? Bringing your feelings to the group might help.
Please talk about what you are feeling with someone you trust....good luck.

I have experienced it, and have seen it discussed many times here. There was a person on the plastics board several months ago that had severe problems, was worried about lasting issues, and found information on one of the medications she was given and there seems to be some issues with it. I'll look for the post, as I don't recall if it was a pain or anti-nausea med or what.
I had a rough time getting all the anesthesia out of my system, like many months. I didn't know that was even possible until I had WLS. The addition of hormones dumping out of the fat cells as weight was lost exacerbated it.
So yah, it seems that several things can contribute to it, and if you're still having trouble, go to the doctor and get something to help.
ETA- There are several families of anti-depressants, so if one didn't work for you in the past, make sure your doc knows that, and try a different type. Also, if you know of any family members (blood relatives, not in-laws) that may be on an anti-depressant that is working for them, ask what it is, since it will have a higher chance of being successful.
2nd ETA - A thoughtful birdie reminded me that the med in question was Reglan, an anti-nausea med. Her symptoms sounded quite frightening, so look it up if you took Reglan. There seems to be quite a bit online about it.

From what I have heard this is usualy temporary, but you realy should find someone close to open up with and don't let it go on too long without discussing it with your doc. When we are depressed we tend to isolate and this is the time when you need support and maybe even someone to watch over you. Its hard to gage yourself when your depressed, so be open about it and see what your doc thinks.
