Home from TT :)
Thanks so much for the reply. Sounds like you did great! My back today is somewhat feeling better when I get up and walk.I haven't had pain meds today but thought I would wait before trying to shower today. I am still not sure what to do with the drains while showering. Surgeon said to keep the drain site covered with plastic and will be fine so, we will soon. I am most fearful of the drains. So afraid I will pull one out or something. That would be jsut my luck. So, I think that was my question earlier, am I suppose to purposely stay bent over when walking for a cple weeks or is it something that will work out on its own like yours did.At what point did you try clothes on? I am still in pj's knowing I do not even want to try clothes now. I have opted out of panties too due to the drain sites being in the way of the leg of the panties. I again am afraid it will interfere with the drain.
Thanks again for your reply and to others as well. It is great to talk with those who have gone through the same thing.

Don't be afraid of pulling the drains out - they are long. I'm not sure how long, but they are over 8 inches at least. I thought I had one of mine secured & didn't & when I got up it fell, I panicked, but it was fine. I made a belt (made out of a swim suit cover up belt) & would safety pin the drains to them when I showered & all was fine. I never covered them with plastic & had no problems. As far as your walking upright, listen to your body. If it feels strange or you feel too tight, don't stand so tall. I lived in my nightgown unless I had visitors, then I worn warm up pants that were loose. I also didn't wear panties for at least 2 weeks due to my drains & some raw skin issues I had. It's amazing what miracles doctors can perform, don't worry, you won't mess their work up! Good luck! Patty
I am only a few days ahead of you. I had my TT and BL/BA on Tuesday 5/18. Like you, the pain is very minimal. The only difficult thing is getting up and down, but I can't even say that causes real pain, just uncomfortable. I haven't taken anything other than Tylenol since Thurs morning for pain management.
I go in Monday for my first post-op and am so hoping to have my drains out then! The last 2 days I have had less than 25ml in each one over a 24 hour period so I am hopeful. They told me I could shower on Thursday but I have not been brave enough to try yet, only been doing sponge baths.
I am noticing that i am slowly standing up straighter without even trying. I've been letting my body figure it out naturally. I may be almost straight one time and the next time I get up I'm hunched over again.
Last year we bought a new bed that has an adjustable frame. It has been such a life saver! I have been able to sleep from day one in my own bed with the head adjusted up. I do have trouble from time to time gettng comfortable though and it's diffuclt to readjust myself.
Sounds like you are doing great! I hope you continue to have an easy recovery.

Wow, Congratulations you are doing great and had a lot more work done than I did!! It makes me feel good to ready stories like yours. I took 1 pain pill at 9pm last night and have not had anything today. I bathed yesterday but did sponge bath today. I put shorts on with elastic waste and bra with tshirt. I feel good.
Sounds like you have a great bed! I am sleeping in a recliner and it is so uncomfortable. I am not sure how far I should lay back and I can't get a pillow behind my neck. So I sit very uncomfortable wishing I could lay in my bed. My bed is high and I would have to stack pillows and I am afraid I would end up laying straight my morning so I am toughing it.
I hope my drains are like your in a couple of days. I am counting down my days til I go back to the doctor. (9days) Do your drains have any leakage aroudn the site. Mine has a small amount, not bad at all and I keep the gauze around the site.
Again Congratulations!!
