Drains`
I have not had my TT yet but I am asking this question for a friend. He had a panni on Thursday. I was over there today for 1.5 hours and had almost 60mL of blood in his drain during that time. It looked like it was pure blood. How much did everyone drain initially and how long before it looked less bloody and more clear fluid. Thanks for your help!
i had my panni done on may 03rd and had my drains out no more then 24 hours later and they had 10cc in them.

I just had both of mine out last week...surgery was may 3rd..the right always drained about 20-30 ml's and the left drained always much more...it was always very red and even until he took them out (the right came out a week later and the left came out friday) they both drained red blood...small little clots and it never became more clear fluid! I would ahve him call his PS but I'm sure everything is fine...the drains are doing exactly what he wants them to do!! DRAIN!
April 29 was surgery. I still have both tubes because of the amount of drainage. 60 sounds like lot, I would get 60 in 8-10 hours, but down signifiantly from that. The color of the fluid has only changed over the last 4 or so days. My PS said that those who have had gastric surgery tend to produce more fluid. I don't think pure blood is what they want....I had some clots, but only a reddish fluid...not as thick as blood. GOOD LUCK for your friend.
he should call the Dr. just to be safe. I had surgery 6 weeks ago, and the first couple of days I was bleeding so much, my garment, my underpants and my PJ's were litterally soaked in fluids/blood..
scared the wholly crap out of me. I thought I was dying! The fluids came not only THROUGHthe drains, but out of the drain holes too... it was crazy, BUT according to Dr. normal.
I had my first drain pulled at 1 week out, draining only 10 ml/day... the other one stayed in until 4 weeks after surgery.... then the opening of the 1. drain started to drain again, and we had to put dressing on for another week or so. THANK GOD for my DH, who took total care of me, until I was able again....
so.... a lot of things are 'normal' BUT one in doubt should ALWAYScall the surgeon, and have him/her make the call of what is OK and what is not...
best wishes to your friend. Karin

I had my drain for 3 weeks and got freaked out one morning because I literally watched the drain pour out 100ml in about 5 minutes time. Scary as hell...but it was just because it had a clot in the line, I was told. I learned from that point on not to be shy with my drain and I emptied it as much as I could....
I never drained anything clear. At some points it was lighter red and sometimes darker. Everyone is different when it comes to drains.
Essentially, drains suck.........
