I have my pre op appointment for abdominoplasty on the 18th. Can anyone share with me what all is normally done during pre op?
Also, what did you take with you to wear home the next day since drain tubes will be attached? I now have granny panties now  to help hold in all of the skin and that will be a bit much with drain tubes so I am hoping you guys can prepare me. I am staying over night and I will have a 1.5 hour drive home the next day.
Any comments, suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks
Jenn

No panties for me after my surgery. Went comando for 4 weeks until I had to go back to work because it was too much of a pain to deal w/ the drains. I had some loose yoga pants I wore home from the hospital and a large t-shirt. I just pinned the drains to the shirt or my binder. I would think that anything that is loose, stretchy and easy to pull on would be fine to wear home from the hospital. You may want to take a pillow for your ride home. Not sure what an 1.5 hour would feel like, I only had a 10 min. drive. I would probably try to time your pain meds for just when you're leaving the hospital so you are nice and comfy on your drive home.

Sorry, can't tell you what the pre-op appt would be like since my surgeon didn't require it. The one thing I did learn after both of my surgeries is to take some protein snacks or sugar free snacks w/ you. The hospital didn't really have anything for me and I ended up taking my pain meds on a pretty much empty stomach which caused me to throw up. Believe me that is the last thing you want to happen when you've had your muscles tightened w/ the TT.

Good luck to you.

No, I really didn't feel like eating but I learned the hard way that you don't want to take your pain meds on an empty stomach. Could be that I just react to the anethesia but both surgeries I ended up throwing up after taking the pain meds on an empty stomach. Let me tell you that is no fun. I then had a reaction to the meds to combat that and ended up passing out. Probably not something you want to do when you've been cut in half and tightened up. Would have been much better to have some sugar-free jello or some type of protein I could get down just to have a little something in my stomach.

Loose clothing and no panties for the ride home will work. Bring a couple of safety pins to pin your drains on your clothes so they don't pull and you will be fine.

I'm the opposite of the previous poster; I took snacks to the surgi-center and didn't eat a single one. Then again, I also didn't take the pain medication until RIGHT before I left for the ride home the following morning.....no N/V. I also took magazines, etc. that went untouched; all I did was sleep. If I had it to do over again I would bring one thing, a lip balm, and the clothes on my back to wear home.

Marilyn,
I woulld not have thought about safety pins so that a pillow and lip balm is now on my list.
Oh my gosh! You took no pain med until time to go home? So, was your pain  level tolerable I am guessing? I have never had problem bouncing back after recover from any of my many surgeries
(2 cesearans, hysterectomy, gallbladder,RNY,hernia and neck surgery) but, reading posts I think this is going to be a tough one.
Thanks,
Jenn

I had about a 1.5-2 hour drive from the hospital.  After my TT, I wore home a robe that snapped in the front, sort of like a house dress.  It had pockets in the front.  I also wore my granny panties with the drains tucked inside.  I did not have to pin them that way.

I did not have a pre-op appointment since I am always admitted the day before the procedure.  But, in addition to the resident taking a complete history, I do get a chest x-ray, EKG and labs done the day before.  I am also seen by the hematologist on staff the day before.
