In the first few days I lost 5 pounds. That is what the surgeon removed of lose skin from me. I stayed that weight for a few days. Now I weigh myself and have gained it all back plus 2 pounds. So I have gained 7 pounds in 4 days . PLEASE be honest with me. Is this normal to GAIN weight and that much weight after panni surgery. Thanks :).

Hi Jo-Anna,
I can only speak for myself, but I went in to surgery, on January 19th, weighing 142 and wearing a size 10 or 12. I now weigh 145 and can't fit the size 10's, just the 12's.
I did have complications with my surgery and I still swell pretty bad. I just try and look at the bright side...............the hanging skin on my stomach is now gone! I am still comfortable in a size 12 and I still eat healthy.
You just might have swelling issues and maybe even water retention. Try not to let it get you too depressed.
I will be curious to see if others gained weight or had trouble wearing their pre-surgery clothing.
Take care!

Hi Fran, Thank You so much for the quick response. It will be interesting to know how many gain and how many lose. I do need to drink a little more. I have been drinking alot of apple juice and I have been sooooo hungry. I am eatting a little more then usual. I do get in about the same amount of exercise. i do see a little swelling in my tummy on mons area. Have a great weekend! :)

I am only answering this, because you said you are curious of how many gained, and how many lost.

I lost 20 pounds after panni/lipo.  I am still not hungry at all, and most of my calories come from protein shakes, I have about 4 of them/day.

a typical meal is the yellow of a egg over easy, and half a toast.. thats about all I can eat.. the rest goes to my dog :)

I think it also has to do with the very restricting garment.

after 5 weeks I am still swollen, probably from the lipo, I still wear the same size pants, but oh my, the shirts all fall soo much nicer now, without having to cover the panni!!  :)

and the reaction of my husband when I tried on my first 2 piece bathsuit and modeled it for him.... priceless :)

The weight you have gained is likely FLUID. It is normal to have swelling after surgery; it usually doesn't start right away (hence, the initial loss) but once the incisions start to feel better and they take out the drains, THEN it starts. Unfortunately, it can last for awhile; I'm talking MONTHS.

I am currently 5 weeks post op TT, lipo, scar revision and breast lift and I am SWOLLEN; it started about 2-3 weeks ago. Continue wearing your compression garment if you think it helps (I wear mine most days, but sometimes I need a break), drink plenty of water, and WALK. Believe it or not, prolonged SITTING can make the swelling worse, so either lie down or sit with legs elevated or walk. Some people feel having massage, specifically lymphatic massage, helps; I'm going to call next week and see if anyone in my town offers them.

GOOD LUCK.

You posted this 2 days ago.........think the 'eating to ease the pain'  might be why you're gaining weight?
Thank goodness you didn't have the LBL and breast lift you wanted there's no way you could handle the pain.

i have been so out of it. sorry guys. i had my panni on may 03rd. i had my drains taken out no more then 24 hours after surgery. i stayed in the hospital for 2 days. i have been up and cleaning and looking after my pets, walking around lots, walked to the store, went to the mall 2 days in a row. i seen my surgeon yesterday. got the suran like wrap off and my surgeon said it is all closed. and that i can wear my binder when i feel the need. i had it off for a lil while twice. then yesterday i had it off for most of the day. my surgeon said it looked good. nothing wrong. for the last 27 hours i have been in extreme pain. it is tight, itchy, burning and hurts like a mofo....esp on the sides. my tummy is so swollen and i keep eatting to ease the pain. so on top of everything else, my tummy is so bloated and full. i bet i have gain 10 pounds from eatting so much :'(....i have my binder o right now...it is so hard to sit...it hurts so bad :'(...hard to lay in my bed....i never sleep hardly :'(

I never think of a couple of pounds in terms of weight gain or loss unless it has been hanging around for several days.  Many factors can effect what the scale says, you could be holding on to fluid, you may need a good poop, pain meds cause constipation.  What you seem to be describing are the normal flutuations the body goes through particularly after surgery and medications.

Joanna, I still swell some days at 6months out, as for weight, I haven't lost post op, clothes just fit better because of the buldge of extra skin gone.
