For those of you who've had wls and then ps, how does the hair loss after wls compare to hair loss (if any) after ps?

I have a lap band so I didn't really lose any hair with my WLS and with my ps, I didn't lose any either because my surgeon insists that we increase our protein intake prior to surgery and after to aide in healing.

Revised to the Sleeve after losing 271 lbs with the LapBand.

I had the bypass and my hair got on the thinner side...only my hao\irdresser and mom noticed.  I have had a very difficult time with the whole eating thing since my surgery and shortly after weas then dx. with anorexia due to the "noneating" (NOT the look of me!)  I used a prduct called CAT which is protein you spray in your hair and now it looks better than it ever did!!  It has a ton of curls...something my hair has not had since a child and I am 37!!

Hello for me my hair started to thin out on my 6 month out ..you've got to figure you just had a major change in your body chemistry so your body will shed alot of hair but now I'm 20 months post op and my hair is fuller than ever,,thats why it's so important to push that protien ...good luck..by the way the unjury flavors are delish if you don't like the wheys..

I haven't experienced noticable hairloss from my PS and don't anticipate it in the future.

The hairloss after GB is due to decreased calorie and protein intake; that's not something I'm experiencing after PS.

I've done a lot of research on post-op hair loss.
I did not have WLS but I lost a bunch of hair after plastic surgery.  Here's the thing......It can happen after any kind of surgery...not just WLS or Plastics.  It's an effect of the anesthesia.  The hair grows in cycles (you know that).....anesthesia can alter the cycle and keep things sleeping or dormant for longer than normal...therefor as we are losing the hair there is no new hair coming in for awhile so it looks a lot thinner.  The good news is it is normally temporary.  The other thing is it doesn't always happen.  Weird, huh.  I think how often or how quickly you do procedures (little time between each) plays are part in this.....it's just my theory based on my own experience.

I had no hair loss after my breast reduction/lift (11/2008)
I lost a little hair after my 1st brachioplasty (3/2009)
I lost some more hair after my brachio revision (7/2009...)
I lost a lot of hair after my TT (9/2009....this was when I really lost a lot!)
I lost no hair after my LBL (12/2009)
I've lost no hair after my inner thighs & 2nd brachio (3/2010)

I started taking the strongest strength Biotin twice a day around Oct/Nov of 2009 and I believe it really helps.

Best wishes!

Most people experience more hair loss after weight loss surgery partly because of the shock to your body and loss of nutrients and the rapid weight loss plus the anesthesia. I personally didn't experience any hair loss with either of my plastic surgeries but I lost tons after my DS.

I lost lots of hair after my DS  and I had some lap bladder surgery back in the 90's and lost a lot of hair after that one too.  But I have not noticed any significant hair loss after any of my plastics.

I haven't had my PS yet, but I'm expecting to lose hair. I lose hair due to anethesia. Definitely lost the most after WLS though. I'm 6 years out and its just come back to somewhat normal. Grew in really curly and is finally relaxing...here we go again in June!
